Itinerary
- Day 1
Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
You'll arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and get transferred to your lodge in Moshi. The rest of the day is yours to unwind by the pool or walk around town if you feel like it. The operations team will meet with you to check your gear and go over what to expect from the trek. Dinner comes with your stay at the hotel.

Moshi to Horombo Huts
After breakfast you'll head out early and trek from the forest into moorland with shrubs and grass covering the slopes. You'll stop for lunch partway through, then keep going for another couple of hours to reach Horombo Huts at 3700m. Altitude effects like headaches or nausea might kick in now, so drink lots of water, eat properly, and get rest.

Landmarks Horombo Huts - Day 3
Horombo Huts Acclimatization
This acclimatization hike helps your body adjust to the altitude and boosts your odds for reaching the summit. Following breakfast, you'll trek up to Zebra Rocks at 4020m, which gets its name from the black and white striped rock formations you'll see there. The path back takes you down to Horombo in time for lunch. Your afternoon is free to explore nearby areas or rest up.

Landmarks Zebra Rocks - Day 4
Horombo Huts to Kibo Hut
Today brings a long uphill push as the landscape shifts into barren, rocky terrain like the surface of the moon. You'll cross the Saddle, a rocky stretch connecting Kilimanjaro's two peaks Kibo and Mawenzi, formed by ancient lava flows. After five to six hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Kibo Hut. Dinner happens early so you can sleep before starting the summit push at midnight.

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Return to Horombo
The summit push starts at midnight when the volcanic ash is still frozen for better traction. You'll have tea and snacks, then trek slowly upward through the dark. Along the way you'll pass Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m and reach Gillman's Point on the crater rim around sunrise at 5681m. From there it's on to Uhuru Peak at 5895m, the highest point in Africa. After photos you'll descend quickly through ash back to Kibo Hut for snacks, then continue down to Horombo by afternoon.

- Day 6
Horombo Huts to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate
The final descent takes you through familiar terrain with heather, red-hot pokers, and moorland vegetation. You'll stop for a hot lunch at Mandara Hut at 2700m, then head into the humid green forest where colobus monkeys with their long tails sometimes appear. Around six hours of hiking later, you'll reach the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. From there it's a transfer to Meru View Lodge in Usa River for a hot shower, clean clothes, cold drinks, dinner, and a night's rest.
