The positives - Egypt is a truly magnificent destination with incredible nature and culture. There is so much variation and history to see and all the must-see highlights are included in this trip. - The Nile cruise boat was the highlight of our trip. - The guides and drivers were all very friendly, professional, and informative, making the organised excursions worthwhile. The negatives: - Extremely Poor and Last-Minute Communication The communication from the tour operator was very last-minute. We frequently had to chase for essential information regarding departure times, transportation, and planning. For example, our cruise boat had a 3-hour delay one day, which changed the evening schedule. We only found out about this because we randomly ran into our tour guide, there was no proactive communication (e.g., via a simple WhatsApp message). The most shocking lack of communication was the unannounced change of our Hurghada hotel. We only discovered the change when our driver dropped us off, having to make a phone call to someone who spoke very broken English to explain the situation. - We spoke with several other travellers from Itaca Holiday during our trip, and it became clear that everyone experienced planning issues (changes to the order of visits, changed flights, cancelled excursions, Spanish-speaking guide replaced with an English-speaking one). - The cost of optional extra activities through the organisation was very high. For example, we were charged $60 USD per person for a light show that we later found cost only $20 USD online and was within walking distance of the boat. - Unwanted Commercial Stops: The itinerary had unannounced commercial stops between the genuinely interesting cultural visits (temples, pyramids, etc.). We were taken to places, like a papyrus shop, where staff pushed us to buy products, which detracted from the cultural experience. - Downgrade in Hurghada resort: The tour operator changed our Hurghada accommodation from a highly-rated resort (score 8.9 on Booking) to a much lower-rated one (score 7.7 on Booking) without our knowledge. The replacement resort was disappointing: poor food quality, outdated rooms with significant mould in the bathroom, neglected swimming pools. - Many days start very early, 4:00-5:00, so it will be a tiring trip. Conclusion: We absolutely recommend Egypt as a travel destination. The tour operator and guides were also very helpful when we needed questions answered or some clarification regarding our trip. It would have been helpful for some folks if they had known that parts of the tour were shared with others from different tours, as there was some confusion at times. Aside from that, the ride on the Nile was excellent! And the stay at Hurghata is just fantastic. Everyone is so helpful and very friendly. I would definitely enjoy a return trip someday to relax and enjoy more of this beautiful country. I highly recommend the Nubian Village and hot air, balloon ride, both are excellent! Depending on what you enjoy, you could skip some of the excursions if you want to just relax on the boat because there are a lot of options on this tour. We especially enjoyed our day visiting the the Pyramids of Giza with Sara. The Temple of Philae, the Abu Simbel optional tour with our guide Khaled Mohamed and driver Milsha. Edfu Temple was amazing out guide Emad (Emat) was a wonderful story teller with a wonderful since of humour. My only complaint is it was extremely rushed. We were running to finish the Temple as we only had an hour to visit while making a quick stop on the Nile Cruise, 2 hours would have been. The Nile cruise was fantastic and I highly recommend it. Our Luxor guide was also excellent and went out of his way to make the tour enjoyable. Hurghada blew us away and exceeded our expectations, the Customer relations manager, Marina was very accommodating, and went above and beyond to make our stay special and memorable. You can upgrade your Cairo hotel to a 5-star property for an additional 100 USD per person per night. You can also upgrade your Luxor hotel to a 5-star hotel for an additional 65 USD per person. However, please note that your stay in Luxor is only for one night in a 4-star hotel, and the next morning you will be traveling to Hurghada. Therefore, we believe the upgrade in Luxor may not be necessary.
