Your leader walks you through archways, theatres, baths, and colonnaded streets, explaining the city's history. The Oval Plaza at the center is particularly impressive. Back in Amman by afternoon, you'll go to a cooking school where you'll make Maqlubeh, Mutabbal, and Baba Ghanouj, then eat what you've prepared as a group.

Once you arrive at the Dead Sea, float in the intensely salty water, relax on the beachfront, or use the infinity pool. The high salt content makes it impossible to sink, which takes some getting used to.

Stop at a viewpoint overlooking Dana Nature Reserve for photos and the view. You'll reach Petra in late afternoon and start exploring with your leader, walking through the Siq to see the Treasury facade carved into the rock face.

    Petra

Spend the day at Petra exploring at your own pace. Walk back through the Siq, where walls rise up to 180 meters on either side, creating a narrow passage through the sandstone. You can climb to the Monastery for views of the entire site or take a free transfer to Little Petra to hike through an alternate route. The on-site cafeteria has light lunch options. Consider the evening Petra by Night experience, where the Treasury Plaza glows by candlelight with Bedouin music.

You'll visit rock formations and experience the quiet desert landscape. Dinner is zarb, cooked in an underground oven at the Bedouin camp. You'll stay overnight in spacious tents with king beds, air conditioning, and en suite bathrooms under the stars.

During Ramadan, business hours are shortened, including opening hours at some tourist attractions. Alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours and many restaurants will be closed. While you should expect some delays and inconveniences during this period, the month is a fantastic opportunity to travel in a Muslim country and witness this unique period, particularly the nightly celebrations when the sun sets and the fast is broken.
