What people love about Petra Tours
- Jordan: Culture & Nature In Depth
Superlative from the moment I arrived at the airport and was ushered thru immigration. Every site was carefully chosen and the outstanding driver & guide (Daniel) were flexible in altering the schedule to meet the needs of the group. The lodging was wll above par as was the travel van. My only critical remark would be the trip needs to be 48 hours longer as a lot was crammed into the alloted time. Communications with Exodus were very good before the trip. Job well done!
- Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead Sea 4 days
We enjoyed our time in Jordan and had a very memorable experience. Unfortunately, I can't give the tour a higher rating as there were many mix-ups on our tour and we were disappointed to miss out on many things. We didn't realize that Booking Tours actually contracts this tour out to another company in Jordan (Travco). The lack of communication between the two companies was very frustrating for us and we lost experiences and spent a lot of time on the phone during our tour trying to sort things out. Travco worked very hard to make it up to us, which we appreciated, but it was too late to make up what we had missed. Our driver, Ash, was phenomenal. I highly recommend him. Some of the accommodations were absolutely lovely, but then some were quite dingy. The meals included were good.

WAS EXCELLENT. My driver Ali very attentive and diligent. I would recommend him for your tour.
Travel Petra your way
Our active Petra tours kick off in Amman with time at Jerash's Roman ruins before heading south. Our travelers tell us they love having both guided tours and free time at the sites - it means they can climb up to places like the High Place of Sacrifice whenever they're ready. The trips usually mix in some off-road driving through Wadi Rum's copper-colored desert and also relaxing floats in the Dead Sea. The local guides really bring the history alive, explaining how the Nabataeans traded and built everything. Some tours add early morning camel rides and nights in Bedouin camps which gives you a real taste of local life while staying active.
Our explorer tours through Jordan and Petra really shine with their mix of structure and freedom. Most run 3-4 days from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, starting with the fascinating Roman ruins at Jerash. Our customers particularly enjoy wandering the old colonnaded streets and discovering ancient baths tucked into the Gilad heights. You'll get some excellent city views in Amman before heading south. What makes these tours work so well is how they balance expert guidance at key spots with plenty of time to explore on your own - especially in Petra where you can take your time climbing up to places like the Monastery at whatever pace suits you.
Select from our extensive range of 54 fully guided tours to enjoy a worry-free experience through Petra with our expert guides leading the way.
The multi-day cultural tours in Jordan give you time to deeply understand the region's rich heritage, with thoughtfully paced Petra visits spread across several days. You'll learn about ancient water systems, traditional building techniques and Nabataean trade networks, while experiencing authentic local life. Our travelers connect with Chechen families in Azraq for cooking workshops, meet artisans at women's cooperatives in Iraq Al Amir, and spend time watching traditional crafts take shape. The archaeological exploration at Petra's main sites pairs naturally with genuine cultural moments - sharing meals with local shepherds, learning family recipes preserved through time, and discovering daily traditions. Tours that stay in historic buildings visit the less-crowded Dana Village with its 15th century Ottoman buildings and provide insights into Bedouin desert culture. What sets these experiences apart are the knowledgeable guides who explain both the fine details of temple carvings and tomb architecture and also share fascinating insights about how the Nabataeans engineered their desert survival.

Best tour companies for Petra tours
TourRadar customers have mixed feelings about the Petra & Wadi Rum tour - the actual destinations in Jordan are fantastic, but there's been some confusion with the logistics. The main issue stems from how the tour gets passed between different companies like Bamba Experience and Tourist Israel, which has led to some tricky situations with meeting points and payments. Several travelers found themselves unsure about where to meet their group or how to handle certain payments, all because the communication between these companies wasn't quite clicking. While nobody's complaining about the incredible rock-cut architecture of Petra or the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, it's these practical details that have caused some headaches. The good news is that once people get past these initial hurdles, they really enjoy what Jordan has to offer. But it's pretty clear that TourRadar needs to work on smoothing out these handoffs between their partner companies. Having multiple operators involved shouldn't mean customers have to deal with extra confusion or uncertainty about the basics of their trip. It's a shame because these organizational hiccups are overshadowing what should be a straightforward journey through some of Jordan's most remarkable places. The feedback suggests that with better coordination between TourRadar, Bamba Experience and Tourist Israel, this tour could really shine.
Discover Petra tours for every budget
Our popular 3-day budget tours connect Petra with key Jordan spots, starting from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. You'll cross into Jordan and explore the Roman city of Jerash before heading south. The tours give you a full day in Petra with guided intro and free time to wander. What works well is how you get the main experiences - walking the Siq to the Treasury - plus morning hours to check out quieter areas. Our customers like choosing their own pace, especially for climbs up to the Monastery or exploring the Royal Tombs.
The 7-day luxury tours dig deeper into Jordan with carefully picked hotels and private transfers from Amman. You get two full days at Petra - enough time to catch both sunset and sunrise from different spots. Our travelers really enjoy the extras like traditional Bedouin dinners under Wadi Rum stars and private guides showing you Petra's hidden corners. There's time for real local connections through cooking in family homes and meeting artisans in their workshops. At the Dead Sea, you'll have your own beach space and also spa treatments.

Top Petra travel itineraries to fit your plans

Our 3-day Petra tours start from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv and make the most of your limited time. The first day takes you through Jerash where you'll walk Roman streets and see the ancient amphitheater. Day two is all about Petra - you enter through the Siq early morning to catch the Treasury in good light, then get both guided tours and free time to explore the Royal Tombs. Many travelers choose to climb up to the Monastery if they're feeling energetic. Some tours add the Petra by Night experience, where hundreds of candles light up the Treasury. The last day visits Madaba's detailed mosaics and Mount Nebo's lookouts before heading back.

Seven-day tours let you really sink into Jordan's culture and landscapes. You get two full days at Petra, which makes such a difference - there's time to find hidden corners, figure out the clever water systems and venture over to Little Petra too. Our customers love staying overnight in Bedouin camps at Wadi Rum, taking 4x4s across the desert sands and learning about traditional desert life. Most tours wrap up with time floating in the Dead Sea, which gives you a chance to relax after all the walking. Our travelers often tell us how much they appreciate not having to rush between places.

Ten-day tours connect Jordan with Israel or Egypt, giving you three full days around Petra. This means you can properly explore the main archaeological park and nearby sites without hurrying. You'll get guided tours but also enough free time to revisit spots you love or find quiet corners others miss. The schedule works nicely for both sunrise and sunset visits to Petra, plus you can join local families for cooking or take walks on the less busy trails.
Demographics
Our solo travel routes to Petra keep things simple and social. The most-booked option runs 4 days from Amman, with airport pickups included and hotels placed right in the center - perfect for exploring on your own in the evenings. There's also a great route starting from Jerusalem that gives you both guided experiences and personal space. Our solo travelers often mention loving the social vibe during Wadi Rum jeep rides and Petra tours, while still having enough free time to do their own thing. The tours handle all the complicated bits but stay flexible - you can join group dinners or head out solo, tackle the Monastery climb with others or take it easy on your own.
Couples tend to love our private 3-4 day tours combining Petra with Wadi Rum and also the Dead Sea. These hit a sweet spot - expert guides when you need them, quiet time when you don't. Many tell us they really value being able to spend extra time at the Treasury during sunrise or sunset. Another popular choice includes dinner with local families in As-Salt and evenings at Bedouin camps in Wadi Rum. The magic comes from mixing active moments - like morning walks on Petra's less-traveled paths - with relaxing ones floating in the Dead Sea or stargazing in the desert.
Young adults typically go for our more challenging routes that blend serious hiking with cultural experiences. The Dana to Petra trek is a favorite, with proper adventure: think 17km daily hikes through remote mountain trails and wilderness camping. Another top pick starts in Jerusalem, includes market exploring in Aqaba and heads into Wadi Rum for desert safaris. These work because they combine physical challenges with cultural diving-in, plus leave room for unexpected discoveries. Our younger travelers particularly like having expert guidance at main sites but freedom to discover Petra's hidden spots or relax at Bedouin camps.
Our senior travelers often choose "Culture & Nature In Depth" tours that take things at a thoughtful pace. Starting in Amman, these tours use comfortable hotels and smart scheduling to avoid peak heat hours. The Petra visits spread across multiple days, giving time to really understand details like ancient water systems and building methods. Our older customers particularly appreciate guides who know their history and can adjust the walking pace when needed. These tours include regular comfort stops and mix active exploring with gentler experiences like Dead Sea floating.
The Dana to Petra Trek really clicks with active families, especially those with older kids. You'll hike 5-7 hours daily through changing landscapes in the Dana Biosphere Reserve, where children can spot local wildlife and move at their own speed. Our family travelers tell us their kids get particularly excited about camping under desert stars and meeting Bedouin communities. Another solid route takes you from Amman through Jerash first - the kids can explore Roman ruins before heading to Petra, which helps build their historical understanding step by step. What makes these family trips work so well is the mix of active exploration and cultural moments like learning traditional cooking at Bedouin camps.
