Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Puerto Natales

You'll arrive in Puerto Natales, a working fishing port that serves as your base for exploring Patagonia over the next few days. The town sits at the edge of some serious landscape - granite peaks, glacial waters, and snow-covered mountains surround the area. This is where your adventure begins, so you'll want to get oriented and grab dinner once you settle in.

    Landmarks/POIs
    Torres Del Paine National Park
  2. Day 2

    Balmaceda & Serrano Glaciers

After breakfast, you're boarding a catamaran heading out to the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. The boat cuts across bright blue water where you'll watch for penguin colonies, sea lions, and waterfalls pouring down the cliffs. Once you reach the glaciers, there's a short hike to get closer, and the views from up there are hard to beat.

    Breakfast

    Included Activities

  3. Day 3

    Puerto Natales

This day is yours to spend however you want in Puerto Natales. You could check out the ship museum, walk through the historic center, or head to the Milodon cave. If you're into wildlife, look up for condors. Sunrise and sunset views from town are worth catching. There are also optional activities like visiting a working Estancia farm to learn about Gaucho culture or going horseback riding.

    Optional Activities

    • Visit ship museum
    • Explore historic centre
    • Visit Milodon cave
    • Visit Estancia (working farm) to learn about Gaucho way of life
    • Horseback riding at Estancia

  4. Day 4

    Torres Del Paine National Park

Today's the main event - Torres Del Paine National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve with lakes, rivers, mountains, and glaciers all in one place. You'll hike deep into the park looking for the three distinctive Torres peaks. At sunset, they light up in violet and red tones. Keep your eyes open for foxes, condors, deer, and if you're lucky, a puma.

    Torres Del Paine Horns
  5. Day 5

    Puerto Natales to El Calafate

After breakfast, you'll take a public bus from Chile into Argentina. The drive itself is worth the journey - Patagonian scenery rolls past for hours. Later you'll arrive in El Calafate, a town named after a berry locals say guarantees your return to Patagonia. This is your gateway to Perito Moreno Glacier and Los Glaciares National Park.

    El Chaltén

You've got the full day to explore El Chaltén. The trek to Mount Fitz Roy takes you to Laguna De los Tres viewpoint where the blue lagoon, granite walls, and white glacier come together. Fitz Roy itself is the most recognized peak in Patagonia, and seeing it in person lives up to the reputation. Your final group dinner happens here this evening.

    Asked on October 22nd, 2023

Could you please describe the hikes with a little more detail as to the length and elevation gain? This looks wonderful but want to be sure I can do the hiking.

    Tour Details
    • ContikiOperatorWritten October 2023

The longest hike on the trip will be around 20km round trip over unpaved trails which is why hiking boots are highly recommended. Other hikes range from 5km to 12km on average. Hiking on this trip is considered moderate and previous hiking experience is recommended.

      Dennis

      TravelerWritten October 2023

thank you. What about elevation gain? The length and unpaved roads is ok, but depending on the elevation gain would give me an idea of how I might handle this.

      Dennis

      TravelerWritten October 2023

What I am trying to find out is during the hike, how many metres/ feet will we climb?

    • ContikiOperatorWritten October 2023

The highest elevation the group will reach is 1160 m/3.800 feet and the elevation gained is 730 m/2400 feet. Both big hikes included on the tour are similar in elevation gained.
