The tour was highly professional and met all expectations in terms of accommodations, food, itinerary and communication throughout booking and during the week. My guide Bogdan was exemplary, not only did he follow the itinerary but extended hikes to the maximum of my abilities offering interesting and challenging alternatives. In addition to being an expert hiker he was also entertaining, thoughtful and an historian with a wealth of cultural facts. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in enjoying the beautiful mountain air and scenery while learning about the history of Romania.

    Asked on August 29th, 2025

We are in our 70s and this trip sounds beautiful. However, there might be too much hiking for one or both of us to manage. What are the age ranges for travelers in September - October? Are the hotel rooms accessible at ground floor or first floor levels? Are there options for someone who doesn't want to hike every day to explore small towns, or simply sit in cafes and people watch?

    Tour Details
    • Active TravelOperatorWritten August 2025

Many of our travelers are in their 60s and 70s, so you certainly wouldn't be out of place in September or October. The accommodations we use are generally small, family-run hotels and guesthouses, and whenever possible, we arrange for rooms on the ground floor or first floor for easier access. Just let us know in advance, and we'll do our very best to accommodate your needs. And please don't worry about the hiking – while the trip is designed for walkers, it's very flexible. If one of you prefers to take a break from hiking on a certain day, there are always opportunities to enjoy by staying at the guesthouse. That way, you can still soak up the atmosphere and local life without needing to hike every day.

    Asked on January 13th, 2025

Are we flying to Brasov or driving from Bucharest? Are we staying at simple, comfortable guesthouses? Hiking will be about 5-10 miles each day, with not much elevation gain. We'll be hiking in 2 national parks and in rural villages near the mountains. Go to the Bran Castle and 7 Ladders Canyon. Is this correct? I am a single female adult, but able to share a double room with another female. Do you think the best weather for hiking will be in July? I may want to see more of Romania before or after this group trip. Do you have a driver/guide that could help me get around?

    • Active TravelOperatorWritten January 2025

You can fly directly to Brasov via Romania's newest airport or drive from Bucharest. We'll stay in simple but comfortable guesthouses. Hiking is 5-10 miles per day, with elevation gain up to 1083 m / 890 m. We'll explore 1 national park (Piatra Craiului) and 1 natural park (Bucegi), visit Bran Castle, and experience 7 Ladders Canyon. As a solo female traveler, we can pair you with another female participant. July is excellent for hiking with warm temperatures and clear skies. We can arrange a private driver/guide to help you explore Romania before or after your group trip.

Will you provide transportation to Bran? Will we be mostly walking through villages or on mountain hiking trails? I'd like to arrange a driver to visit other towns in Romania, and maybe to the National Parks that we won't be going to on the guided tour.

    • Active TravelOperatorWritten January 2025

Yes, we visit Bran Castle on day 2. Mountain villages are approximately 35% and hiking trails approximately 65%. We can discuss additional exploration later.

On the itinerary, we tour the castle on day 2, then hike into the national park. On day 3 we hike further into the Park and visit the Curmatura hut. What do we do at the hut? We then drive down to the guesthouse. Day 4 and 5 we walk around the old villages (day 4 is 9.5 miles walking). Day 6 we hike about 10 miles into Bucegi, Day 7 climb the 7 ladders. Is this correct? Did I read it correctly?

    • Active TravelOperatorWritten February 2025

Yes, it is correct. When we hike at Curmatura hut, we hike back to the guesthouse.
