Itinerary
- Day 1
Catania
You'll arrive in Catania and check into your hotel, then meet your tour leader and other travelers for a briefing. This evening kicks off with the St. Agatha festival where thousands of devotees in traditional white gowns gather in Cathedral Square for music, songs, and fireworks. There's an optional champagne terrace experience if you're interested in that.

- Day 2
Mount Etna - Taormina
This morning starts at the Pescheria fish market in Catania before heading to Mount Etna, Europe's highest volcano at 10,922 feet/3,329 meters. You'll visit Rifugio Sapienza and walk through the Crateri Silvestri volcanic cones where you can see across Sicily and the Aeolian Islands on clear days. After tasting local honey and regional products, you'll drive to Taormina for lunch at a local restaurant. From there, walk through the Greek Theatre which overlooks Giardini Naxos bay, then wander the medieval streets and check out the Riviera dei Ciclopi. By evening, you'll head back to Catania to see the St. Agatha procession.

- Day 3
Catania
Your guided walking tour explores Catania's UNESCO-listed Baroque center, known for its black lava stone architecture with white limestone accents. The tour begins at Duomo Square where you'll see the Cathedral and the Liotru statue, an ancient lava-stone elephant. You'll walk through University Square and along the elegant Via dei Crociferi, stopping at the S. Benedict Monastery. Lunch is light street food and traditional minnezze (local pasta dish) at a historical bar. The afternoon is free to experience the St. Agatha feast with colorful processions, devotees in traditional dress, the ornate fercolo, and the impressive wooden candelore parade.

After breakfast at your hotel, tour services end. You have the chance to visit San Benedetto Monastery (located behind your hotel) to hear the traditional singing of cloistered nuns greeting St. Agatha before she returns to the Cathedral, if that interests you.
