But I have one concern, when I arrived from US, nobody came to airport to pick us up. I was waiting for 4 hours at the airport. Finally hotel shuttle came to pick us after continuous follow ups.

The Maya wonders tour itself was great, the guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The accommodation was not great however, none of the hotels had fridges, the air conditioning either did not work or wasn't provided & it was very hot, so this was not ok.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR TO ANYONE! DID NOT FEEL SAFE WITH OUR TOUR GUIDE! You do not need this 8-Day Tour, apparently there is a 4-Day option which is plenty enough. For someone who loves to visit pyramids, I find this 8-Day tour to be overwhelming. The hotels’ quality got worse as the tour went on. There were a total of 4 of us in the group, after the 4th day, the other couple left. This experience taught us to ask for the total numbers of people in the tour when booking in the future. We can then make a decision for our safety especially if you are traveling as a woman. After the couple left, the service went downhill, our tour guide (Aldo) didn’t give any effort. The constant harassment increased and became more apparent to the point of us being grossed out by him. We were avoiding him left and right but he didn’t back off or even try to change his behaviors. He was constantly rubbing our shoulders, winking at us, spontaneously turning around and swinging his hands close to our chests and talking inches from our faces. He was supposed to be someone we can trust for this trip but we were very scared for our safety. We needed some time away from him and we requested that day we would like to have lunch by ourselves without him and the driver. Aldo got very offended and he bad-mouthed about us to the driver. We knew of this because the driver immediately gave us the cold shoulder after the lunch incident. The driver started to turn off the AC in the back where we sat when he had never done this before. We noticed Aldo had also bad mouthed about us to hotel staff where we would be staying. When we got to Mision Palenque hotel, it became very obvious, we were given a room with a broken AC. The hotel staff was standing there and he refused to help us change the room. Aldo heard us calling him but we had to wait over 20 min for him to come up. The staff only helped when Aldo gave his commands. We had reached out to the agency after the incident and Aldo had only tone down a little with his behaviors and punishments for us. We had contemplated ending our tour early but we were so far away from Cancun. We didn't know what to do. We decided to endure for the remaining 3 days and informed the agency that we were worried about our safety. We also told Aldo that he needs to play nice and that after 3 days, we will be out of your hair. We believed the agency had spoken to him and things had improved. We think he was afraid of losing his job because he started being nice and requesting selfies with us, so he can send them to his boss to prove everything was good. We played along, to be on his good side so we don’t get punished anymore. His harassment, bullying and punishments (no AC, try to scam us to pay for his lunch and hotel tax) had caused this whole experience to be very traumatic but we tried to not let him ruin everything. We still remembered all the other nice people we had met and the rich history and culture we learned about Mexico. We really hope by sharing our experiences we can help others.

This tour was spectacular! It hit many of the Mayan pyramids I wanted to explore in Mexico, though I have a few to return to in the future! The pace of the tour was comfortable, and the stop at the waterfall after visiting Palanque made it the best day of the trip. I was also lucky to catch Carnaval in Campeche. As to be expected, there was more driving towards the end of the trip returning to Quintana Roo. My tour guide, Aldo, was wonderful and shared a lot about Mexican history to understand more of the mixing of cultures in the country.

This trip had a nice balance of guided time and free time. There were cultural enrichment activities that gave a nice taste of life in Mexico. The hotels were clean and safe. There is a lot of driving the last days of this trip. Our guide Miguel had the education and experience to make this an exceptional tour. I would highly recommend this tour over a large group/bus tour. Thank you Miguel for making our trip both wonderful and educational.

The trip was very interesting and a bit adventurous. We saw a few different very interesting Mayan archaeological sites, diffrent Mexican cities and areas and went on an adventurous boat trip where we saw wild animals such as birds and crocodiles. One of the things that could be improved for the tour are some of the hotels. The hotel quality varied in different cities. For example the hotel on arrival in Cancun was very nice. Others weren’t that comfortable especially in Valladolid. Unfortunately the room had a bad moldy smell in the air and therefore it as hard to sleep and rest. I was glad we only spend one night their. All in all it was a very interesting good trip.

It was a private tour- just us 4 and with Miguel our guide and Edgar our driver. Everything was perfectly organized with clean and save hotels. Evenings we always spent walking into town/ surroundings to have dinner. The tour itself is amazing - great sights. Expect a lot of driving the last days. It helps to speak a few words of Spanish ( Edgar did not speak English) and to be a bit more independent in the evenings.

Aside from the fact that destination services have me the wrong phone number for my guide and that they would not respond when called; everything went mostly well. I was only able to communicate with destination services only via Tour Radar. The guide was very knowledgeable and the driver was on time. The hotels were mostly good.

If we were to change hotels to the one allocated for day 1 in the check in time is that acceptable rather than being met at the airport and still get the benefit of that accommodation?

You may make your own way to the Wyndham Garden Hotel on October 11, 2026, from 3:00 PM onwards, and enjoy your included night of accommodation. On October 12, your guide will meet you at the hotel along with the other passengers booked for the same date.

    1) We will be staying in Cancun a couple of days before the tour, do we have to be transferred to the hotel offered on October 12th or can we picked up from our hotel on October 13th? If not what time would be transferred to the hotel? 2) Do we have free time in each city? Like Valladolid and Merida? 3) Will we have time in Tulum to swim in the beach there? And in Bacalar to swim in the lake? 4) Which Cenote will we be visting? I've heard great things about Ik ill cenote but from the the tourist pictures it doesn't seem we will be visiting a less popular one

      1) The package includes the night of October 12th-13th at the Fairfield Inn Airport Hotel. On October 13th, your guide will pick you up in the lobby between 7:50 and 8:00 am. We cannot pick you up from another hotel. 2) In Valladolid and Merida, there is free time, and a city tour is offered in each city. 3) In Tulum, we only visited the archaeological site, and the guide may give you a few minutes to walk around the hotel zone, but not to enter the beach. The same is true in Bacalar; it's just a photo stop. 4) The cenote we visited is Hubiku, an underground cenote with an entrance or eye in the ceiling. It is located 12 km northwest of Valladolid.

There are no optional tours offered with this program. As per how much you could spend on meals and tips, it's totally up to you. A general price for a meal per person could go from 250 to 350 pesos MXN for a decent meal, nothing fancy as that would be a higher price.

It could be an option, it would take between 5-6 hours to get to the airport from Chetumal and it would need to be a private transfer. You would be missing the stops for Bacalar and Tulum. The price for the transfer is $350 USD for a vehicle for 2 people.

    • Destination Services MexicoOperatorWritten January 2025

We have checked the times and you could make it in time for both options. If you were to take the CUN flight that leaves after 22 hrs, you would be reaching Cancun between 4 and 5pm, so you could take a taxi to the airport and be there with plenty of time. If you were to take the option for the flight from Tulum, you could do the visit to the archeological site and then the driver could drop you off downtown Tulum where you could take a taxi to the Tulum airport and be there on time at 15hrs.

Sadly, all the activities scheduled do not allow extra time for a diving experience. Perhaps if you were to extend your stay after the program at a hotel in Cancun or the Riviera Maya, you could then book some diving time. Hotels would have information on this type of activity.
