7 Days in Bolivia, incl. La Paz and Uyuni Salt Flats
Bolivia's diverse landscapes span 4 destinations over 7 days, from La Paz to Uyuni. UNESCO-listed Lake Titicaca's Island of the Sun, the Witch Market, and 2 nights at a unique salt hotel in Colchani highlight the journey. Six locations include San Cristobal mining town and Laguna Colorada's flamingo sanctuary.
- Day 1
La Paz Arrival
- Day 2
Lake Titicaca & Isla del Sol
Take the early 3.5-hour bus to Copacabana including a boat crossing at Tiquina Strait. Consider motion sickness pills for the winding roads. A 50-minute speedboat ride takes you to Isla del Sol. A recent visitor noted: "The Yumani Steps are steep and challenging at altitude—take breaks and bring coca leaves to help with elevation." Head back to La Paz in the evening.
- Day 3
La Paz - Uyuni Transfer
Book an early morning flight to Uyuni well in advance as seats fill quickly. Start exploring at the Train Cemetery but wear solid shoes if you want to climb on the old locomotives. Visit the salt processing facilities in Colchani before your first look at the salt flats. Bring sunglasses and lip balm since the salt reflects intense light even on overcast days.
- Days 4-5
Uyuni Salt Flats & Desert
Spend two full days exploring the vast salt flats and surrounding desert. Stay overnight in a salt hotel in Colchani but pack warm clothes for freezing nights. Your trip will include Incahuasi Island with its giant cacti plus several colorful lagoons where flamingos gather. The altitude reaches 4,800m so take it slow and drink plenty of water. Start your days around 6:30 AM for the best photo opportunities.
- Day 6
La Paz City Exploration
Fly back to La Paz. Get a great overview of the city on the cable car system starting from the yellow line station in Sopocachi. Visit the Witches' Market early before the crowds arrive. Save Valle de la Luna for the afternoon light. One visitor mentioned: "The cable car gives you an incredible perspective of how the city sits in the valley—do this first to orient yourself."

7 Days in Bolivia, incl. La Paz and Uyuni Salt Flats

- Day 2
La Paz Exploration
Visit Tiwanaku Archaeological Temple first thing. It's about 1.5 hours from La Paz and getting there early helps you avoid the tour crowds. Bring sun protection since there's minimal shade. Back in the city you can explore the unique Witches' Market and Moon Valley's striking clay formations. Ride the cable car for great city views. It's a local form of transport that only costs $3 per trip.
- Day 3
Uyuni Salt Flats
Book an early flight to Uyuni to avoid typical afternoon weather delays. Your first stop will be Colchani village to see how locals process salt. As one visitor shared: "Bring sunglasses and water-resistant boots—the salt's glare is intense, and your feet will thank you." You can spend the night in a unique salt hotel where they build everything, even the beds, from salt blocks.
- Day 4
Desert and Lagoons
Start with the Train Cemetery before other tourists arrive. The roads get rough past San Cristóbal village so consider motion sickness medication. You'll visit several lagoons filled with flamingos and see the massive Ollague Volcano at 5,865m. Pack warm clothes since nighttime temperatures drop below freezing.
- Day 5
Colored Lagoons
Get up before sunrise to see Red Lagoon when the flamingos are most active. The Sol de Mañana geysers put on their best show in the cold morning air. Don't forget swimwear for the Polques hot springs. Soaking at 35°C while at 4,500m elevation is something special. Green Lagoon looks its best before midday.
