Budget Tours & Trips to Mediterranean Reviews
- Treasures of Italy
Overall ... I had enjoyed being on this tour. This tour had consisted of English Speaking travelers as well as Spanish Speaking. I was with a small English Speaking group. Our tour leader Susana was very friendly and helpful. The tour was operated by Europamundo. From the time that I booked ... I was communicating with Gabriela and Wendy who helped me with any questions before the tour started. The coach bus was very clean and our bus driver (Manolo?) was amazing. The WIFI was fine. I'm glad that there was a toilet (for 1 Euro) inside. Throughout the trip, because we were both a English and Spanish speaking group. Our tour leaders took turns speaking about the destinations we were about to go to. This was one aspect that I didn't enjoy. Sometimes Samuel (Spanish Speaking tour leader) would go on for a long time. I've been to Rome, Venice, and Pisa before ... but the other destinations were new to me and we went to interesting places. I do want to say that some places were quite a short stop. I know that some people actually wanted to climb the tower in Pisa ...but there was little time to spend there. Some of the cities had local guides ... Begonia from Orvieto and Perugia was great !! Very informative and friendly. Pompeii was one of the places I was looking forward to ... and our guide was very informative. It was one of my favorite stops because I really wanted to see the ruins. Because of the time of the year ... and the time we arrived at a particular city ... there weren't much things opened... from restaurants to places to see. Our last stop was Castel Gandolfo and the Palace and Gardens were closed for the season. Lake Albano was nice to look at, but just walking around the Piazza seemed like a waste of time. I was a solo traveler and in some hotels that we stayed in, I shared with someone other times I had a room on my own. Some of the hotels were nice, some of the hotels not so nice. The breakfast in each of the hotels were delicious. Some locations were a bit further from places of interest. Barcelo Milan had the STRANGEST OPEN BATHROOM setup !! I had a shared room with someone I didn't know and it was somewhat uncomfortable. Once again, I enjoyed seeing all these destinations on the Golden Italy tour. I just hope that some hotels can be changed to be closer to some points of interests. It would be nice to have Solo Travelers have a room of their own ... or maybe have a lesser supplement fee.
- Barcelona to Rome Quest (Standard, Summer ( Until Mar '27), Classic)
The trip was all I expected and more. Greg, our tour bus managers was one of the best parts. He had all the knowledge and recommendations on every place we went to get the most out of our short time in each city. I would definately tour with him again.
- Spain, Portugal & Morocco
Excellent tour director. Great city tours. Good hotels. Excellent drivers and buses. The drive from Marrakesh to Fes was a great experience. One down side is the race for dinner, food sometimes runs out and space is limited, cramped seating, arrive early for dinner. Overall great value for money and enjoyed a exciting holiday .
What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to Mediterranean
What are some budget-friendly areas to stay in Mediterranean cities?
Smart travelers looking to save money should look into neighborhoods slightly outside city centers. El Poblenou in Barcelona offers rooms at Hotel Ibis Styles while Rome's charming Trastevere district features affordable spots like Hotel Roma. In Lisbon the area near Hotel Vila Gale Opera provides good value. These areas connect well to main attractions through public transport which helps cut down on taxi costs. A TourRadar review notes: "The hotels were well-located near public transport making it easy to explore while saving money on taxis."
What entrance fees should I budget for attractions in Mediterranean cities?
Key attractions in Mediterranean cities typically cost between USD 20-30. The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona costs USD 26 while Rome's Colosseum runs USD 24 and the Vatican Museums charge USD 20. Some tour companies like Cosmos build entrance fees into their packages covering sites like Fatima Sanctuary and Cordoba Mosque. A TourRadar traveler points out: "Having entrance fees included helped control costs though optional activities added up."
What is the average daily cost for budget Mediterranean tours?
Expect to spend between USD 130-190 per day on budget tours depending on where you go and when you travel. Greece Classic Tours cost about USD 184 daily with stays at 4-star properties like Golden Age Hotel in Athens. Turkey tours run closer to USD 190 per day including accommodations at places like Hampton by Hilton. A TourRadar traveler says: "The hotels were very nice and food was good making it great value for the destinations covered." These rates usually cover lodging some meals transport and guided tours.
When is the most affordable time to visit the Mediterranean region?
Travel during shoulder season (March-May and September-November) to find better deals while enjoying pleasant weather. Cities like Barcelona and Rome see fewer tourists and lower prices from October through November. Greek islands including Santorini offer better rates during April and May. The peak summer months of July and August bring the highest prices according to TourRadar travelers.
What meals are typically included on budget Mediterranean tours?
Budget tours generally provide daily breakfast and select group dinners while other meals are up to you. The Italy on a Budget 13-day tour includes welcome dinners in Rome and Florence plus wine tastings in Tuscany. Travelers can explore local restaurants for remaining meals. TourRadar travelers suggest setting aside USD 25-40 daily for additional food costs.
What are the most affordable areas to visit in the Mediterranean?
Croatia's coast including Split and Dubrovnik offers good value along with southern Spanish cities like Granada and Malaga. Portugal's Porto and Lisbon provide affordable options for travelers. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Portugal and northern Spain were surprisingly affordable compared to Italy and France. Local food and wine were excellent value." These destinations deliver rich cultural experiences without the high costs found in places like the French Riviera.
