What people love about touring Mediterranean solo
- Semi-Private Tour of Mediterranean Marvels from Athens to Rome
This was our second tour booked with Choose Balkans, but this time to explore south of Albania. Challenging, breathtaking, a perfect vacation--just a few words to describe a trip that has so many unique moments. Our tour guide on this trip was outstanding. The trip was well planned, organized and executed.
- Balkan Essentials in 12 days
Our tour guide (as well as the local guides in each city) was amazing- Slobodan did a fantastic job and was very helpful and friendly. Most of the hotels and included meals were excellent, there was really just one that was sort of a dud (Hotel Leotar). Most of the places we visited were beautiful and fascinating (we knew very little about the Balkans before this trip), with just a couple stops that were clearly only for sleeping or bathroom breaks. This seemed like a great value, too. We highly recommend it!
- Small Group Tour; Mediterranean Marvels from Rome to Athens / Corfu
We took this tour on September 1st, 2024 with Erikson M., who was an AMAZING guide. He took really great care of us while showing us everything the beautiful Struga and Ohrid had to offer. I appreciated experiencing the beach feel of one city juxtaposed to the historical focal points of the next city the most about this tour. It is roughly a 12 hour day and Erikson showed our group a lot of patience during it all. He encouraged bathroom stops, snacks, provided clear and concise instructions, and was an extremely safe driver. For future patrons, eat a large breakfast and bring a snack because we did not eat "lunch" until about 1500. Also, on the way to N. Macecedonia, you stop at this gorgeous rest stop to try an alcoholic drink called "raki" and you'll definitely want to have something in your belly before it. LOL! Erik, thank you so much again and best of luck to you in your future endeavors!

How easy is it to meet other solo travelers on Mediterranean guided tours?
Meeting fellow travelers comes naturally on Mediterranean tours through shared experiences and daily group activities. The structured format includes communal meals like group dinners in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and hands-on activities such as cooking classes in Rome. Groups typically consist of 40-50% solo travelers creating a welcoming social environment. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The group bonded really quickly under our guide's leadership and we tended to stick together even on our free days." Common spaces at accommodations like Hotel AC Cuzco in Madrid and Hotel Lutecia in Lisbon provide natural gathering spots for casual socializing after daily excursions.
What is the typical cost of single supplements on Mediterranean tours?
Single supplements for Mediterranean tours cost between USD 1200-1800 for two-week trips depending on the season. Summer months (July-August) see higher rates around USD 4750 while shoulder season rates hover near USD 5150. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The single supplement was worth it for the privacy though I spent most of my time socializing with the group during meals and activities." Hotels such as the Palm Plaza in Marrakech and Ryad Ennakhil offer well-appointed single rooms with private bathrooms at these rates.
Which Mediterranean cities are most solo traveler-friendly?
Barcelona Nice and Rome stand out as particularly welcoming cities for solo travelers. Tours typically provide 2-3 hours of independent exploration daily alongside scheduled group activities. This allows time to visit personal must-see spots like Barcelona's Gothic Quarter or Rome's Trastevere neighborhood. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "I appreciated having free afternoons to explore Nice's beaches and Florence's museums at my own pace while still having the security of group activities." Most accommodations like Hotel Palm Plaza in Marrakech are centrally located making it easy to maximize free time.
What's the typical group size for Mediterranean tours?
Groups usually range from 12-24 travelers creating a balance between intimacy and social variety. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Our small group of 20 became like family - perfect size for getting to know everyone while still being able to move efficiently between destinations."
