Budget Tours & Trips to Portugal Reviews
- Highlights of Portugal
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is energetic and mobile enough to walk up and down the cobbled streets of the cities. It was a great group of 8 plus our very spectacular tour guide, Siri Barretto. The only part of the itinerary that we thought should be eliminated was the boat trip at Pinhao. It was a very long day and we would have rather had time to enjoy the lovely hotel by the river. All hotels were very well located in the heart of the cities. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices at each hotel. Our airport transfer driver was still waiting for us even after it took 2 1/2 hours to get through customs. Every place that Siri recommended or took us to for meals was outstanding and very fairly priced. She paid attention to detail and got every question answered. She also told us a lot about the history as we went along and kept us informed of all meeting times and went over upcoming itinerary each day. I would highly recommend Explore tours and Siri Barretto as a tour guide. Siri was the very best one I've ever had the pleasure of touring with.

What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to Portugal
What is the typical price range per day for budget tours in Portugal?
You can expect to spend between 130-180 USD per day on budget tours in Portugal. This price range covers your basics: a place to sleep good food and guided experiences. The Portuguese Camino tour from Porto to Tui comes in at 161 USD daily with hotel stays while the coastal Rota Vicentina Fishermen's Trail offers a good deal at 121 USD per day covering lodging and most food. Recent feedback from a TourRadar guest highlights the value: "Amazing value for money with all the included activities and fantastic accommodation at Hotel Vila Galé Porto."
Which regions in Portugal offer the best value for budget travelers?
Head to Northern Portugal especially Porto and the Douro Valley for the best deals. Cities like Braga and Guimarães have budget-friendly hotels such as Hotel do Carmo where local meals cost around 15-20 USD. The popular Algarve region tends to cost more. A TourRadar traveler points out: "Porto was particularly good value with reasonable prices for food wine tastings and activities. The Douro Valley tour with lunch and wine tasting was excellent value for money."
When is the most affordable time to visit Portugal on a budget tour?
Book your trip during March-May or October-November to find the best deals. These months offer pleasant weather without summer crowds and high prices in places like Porto and Lisbon. Tour companies such as UTracks often reduce rates by up to 15% during these periods. One traveler shares: "Visiting in October was perfect - great weather fewer tourists and better prices on everything."
What type of accommodation can I expect on budget tours in Portugal?
Budget tours typically put you in 3-4 star hotels near city centers. Places like the Residencial Florescente in downtown Lisbon or Hotel Vitoria in Coimbra put you close to main attractions. You'll be walking distance from spots like Rossio Square or Porto's riverside district. A recent guest noted: "The hotel in Lisbon Residencial Florescente was so convenient with delicious food and dining inside or outside and located on a lovely tiled pedestrian street."
Are entrance fees to major attractions included in budget Portugal tours?
Most main attraction fees come with your tour package including Porto's São Bento Station and Lisbon's Belém Tower. Some optional visits cost extra like Sintra's Pena Palace at 15 USD or Port wine cellar tours ranging from 12-20 USD with tastings. According to one traveler: "The tour included most major attraction fees especially in Porto where the wine tastings and river cruise were all covered."
How much should I budget for meals not included in Portugal tours?
Plan for 25-35 USD daily for meals not in your tour package. Local spots in Porto's riverside area or near Coimbra University offer lunch specials (menu do dia) around 12-15 USD. Dinner in Lisbon's Bairro Alto costs about 20-25 USD at traditional restaurants. A TourRadar guest notes: "Our guide arranged some good value meals especially the last evening and recommended restaurants that were outstanding and very fairly priced."
