What people love about Historical Tours in Greece
- Greece Discovery Tour
Overall my 10 day trip of Greece was a wonderful vacation. When we arrived at the Athens airport our transportation to our hotel did not show up. So we needed to call Travel Zone who instructed us to take a taxi. We did get reimbursed for the cost of the taxis but this was a very stressful way to start our vacation. When we meet with our travel representative Effie for the first time on day 0 she informed us of the cost of 45 Euros per person for monument fees. I could not find any information which was previously sent to us outlining this extra cost. I did not understand why this extra charge was not built in to the cost of the entire trip and prepaid prior to our departure. I was forced to use Euros which I needed for my vacation. Outside of the above our travel guide on the 4 day tour of Greece was very knowledgeable, well spoken, kind and considerate. The tour bus “GO Tours” was very comfortable and the bus driver was very competent. All the hotels were very satisfactory and the included breakfast and dinner were very good. The entire tour ran on time and our punctuality was stressed from the beginning. Overall I am pleased with my selection of this 10 day guided tour of Greece from Tour Radar, Fez Travel and Travel Zone. I feel that my limited time in Greece was spent very efficient, the dinner reservations for Xmas eve and New Years Eve recommended by our guides were excellent. Thank you

Everything was well organized! Recommented
- Greek Island Hopping with Guided Tours - With 4* hotels Premium
I have chosen this tour to get an experience of the Greek islands. After a quick day in Athens I had an early morning boat to catch, thankfully the agency had organized my transportation. I went to Paros where I had a full day tour that took me to various nice beaches and landmarks but the one that stood out the most was lefkes village. Then to Naxos island, the beaches were great. The best of all was Santorini. During my tour there I got the chance to meet other nice people, visit a local winery and watch the sunset at oia village. My trip was an amazing experience. I will never forget it. Thank you for organizing it for me.
What our customers ask about Historical Tours & Trips in Greece
When is the best time to visit Greece for historical sightseeing?
Spring (April to June) and fall (September to October) offer ideal conditions for exploring Greece's historical sites with moderate temperatures between 65-75°F and fewer tourists at archaeological locations. These months let visitors walk through the Acropolis in Athens or explore the ruins of Delphi without the intense summer heat. One TourRadar traveler noted: "We visited in April and had perfect weather for exploring the historical sites with smaller crowds making it easier to really appreciate places like Delphi." The spring months also bring wildflowers that grow among ancient structures at sites like Meteora and the Sanctuary of Apollo adding natural beauty to the historical landscape.
What are the must-visit historical sites on a tour of Greece?
The essential historical circuit includes the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens the Oracle at Delphi and the cliff-top monasteries of Meteora. History enthusiasts should also visit the archaeological park of Dion near Mount Olympus and Pella the birthplace of Alexander the Great. The Herodion Hotel in Athens serves as a convenient base for exploring the historic Plaka district. As one TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The historical treasures at Delphi were absolutely breathtaking - from the Treasury of the Athenians to the Temple of Apollo every stone tells a story of ancient Greece."
What historical sites can I visit from Athens as day trips?
Athens serves as an excellent hub for historical day trips. Popular destinations include Delphi (2.5 hours away) the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion (1.5 hours) and ancient Corinth (1 hour). Many hotels like the Acropolis Hill Hotel or Jason Inn help arrange guided tours. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The day trip to Delphi from Athens was absolutely worth it - the guide's knowledge of Greek mythology and history brought the ancient sanctuary to life."
How are the archaeological sites preserved and what should I expect?
UNESCO protection ensures careful preservation of Greek archaeological sites with clear pathways and designated viewing areas. The Acropolis Museum and similar institutions house original artifacts in temperature-controlled spaces. Hotels such as Athens Avenue Hotel or Polis Grand provide resources about site conservation. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The preservation work at sites like Delphi is impressive and the guides explain ongoing restoration efforts while respecting the historical integrity."
How do guided historical tours differ from self-guided options in Greece?
Professional guides on historical tours often have backgrounds in archaeology or history providing detailed context at complex sites like Delphi and the Acropolis. While self-guided visits offer flexibility they may lack crucial historical understanding. Hotels like the Athenaeum Smart Hotel can connect guests with knowledgeable guides. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "Having a professional guide at sites like Meteora made the historical experience infinitely richer - they shared details we would have missed on our own."
