What people love about Gorilla Trekking Tours from Nairobi
- Kenya & Uganda Gorilla Overland: Forests & Wildlife Spotting
This tour was incredible! Our CEO, Pesh, and driver, Bernard, were both amazing! The safari in Masai Mara was excellent, we saw tons of animals and got to get super close in our 4x4 vehicle. I wish our safari at lake Nakuru had been in a 4x4 as well but even in the lando we had great rhino, lion and flamingo sightings. Of course, the gorilla trek was also a great experience. I really enjoyed all the time we spent in uganda, especially at the beautiful campsite in Lake Bunyonyi. I would definitely recommend this tour and will absolutely be using G Adventures again in the future!
- 14-day Game Parks & Gorillas (Camping)

- Nairobi To Nairobi (20 Days) Gorillas & Gameparks
Great tour. Guide and driver were knowledgeable and helpful. A couple of accommodation sites weren't to good for tents. Cold showers at some accommodation sites. Food was good
What our customers ask about Gorilla Trekking from Nairobi
How many different countries do these gorilla trekking tours typically visit?
Most gorilla trekking tours from Nairobi cover 2-3 countries. You'll travel through Kenya and Uganda, and some tours add Rwanda to the mix. A typical route like the "Masai Mara & Gorilla Adventure" takes you from Kenya's Masai Mara to Uganda's Bwindi forest, possibly ending in Kigali, Rwanda. Along the way, you'll stay at places like Bwindi Lodge and Red Chilli Hideaway in Kampala.
What's the best way to get to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest from Nairobi for gorilla trekking?
Getting to Bwindi takes 3-4 days of overland travel through Kenya and Uganda. You'll ride in a 4x4 safari vehicle or overland truck, stopping at places like Lake Nakuru, Eldoret, and Kampala before reaching Bwindi. Most groups stay at Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort near the park entrance. While it's a long journey, travelers often tell us they love seeing the changing landscapes and wildlife as they cross East Africa.
What other wildlife experiences are combined with gorilla trekking when starting from Nairobi?
Your gorilla trek will be part of a bigger wildlife adventure. You'll usually visit the Masai Mara to see big game, Lake Nakuru for flamingos and rhinos, and Kalinzu Forest to meet chimpanzees. Most tours include nights at places like Leopard Rest Camp in the Masai Mara and by Lake Bunyonyi. Many travelers say this mix of experiences gives them a real feel for East Africa's amazing wildlife.
How far in advance should I book a gorilla trekking tour starting from Nairobi?
Book at least 6-8 months ahead. Each gorilla family only allows 8 visitors per day, so permits are limited. Popular companies like G Adventures and Absolute Africa often fill up months in advance, especially from June to September and December to February. Booking early also helps you get spots at nice places like Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort.
What's the best time of year for gorilla trekking tours starting from Nairobi?
Plan your trip during the dry seasons - June to September or December to February. The trails in Bwindi forest are less muddy then, which makes hiking easier. That said, travelers tell us gorilla trekking works year-round, and places like Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort keep you comfortable no matter when you visit.
What route do most Nairobi to gorilla trekking tours take?
Your journey starts in Nairobi, then heads through Lake Nakuru National Park and crosses into Uganda via Eldoret. You'll stop in Kampala and visit Queen Elizabeth National Park to see chimpanzees before reaching Bwindi forest for your gorilla trek. Companies like G Adventures and On The Go Tours often return via Lake Bunyonyi and Jinja, giving you lots of different experiences on the way.
