Reviews of Small Group tours to Bolivia
- Best of Bolivia: La Paz to Uyuni
Unu Raymi Expeditions was extremely helpful, quick to respond, and super accommodating when I needed to adjust my plans due to personal reasons. Their customer service was excellent, and they promptly addressed any concerns I raised. However, the execution of the tours was not as smooth as I had hoped. Since the operator is not based locally, there was significant miscommunication with the local agents. Contacts kept changing, which left me uncertain about who to reach out to at times. Some of the local agents seemed disorganized, with instances of trying to charge extra, not fully adhering to the tour’s terms, and even shortening some of the activities. While the main operator was fantastic in resolving these issues when I raised them, the overall experience could have been much better with a more reliable local team.
- 12 Days From the Andean Magnificence to Uyuni Salt Flats: A Journey Through Bolivia
Thanks to everyone involved...especially to Erika and Andres! Also thanks to my guides up the shield volcano. Thanks also to all the people who met me at ferries and shuttled me to hotels! Things went well and was the right balance of activity and rest time. The highlight for me was the snorkeling. While I have been to better reefs in the world (this was not a reef, but the lava rock shore), the diversity of marine life and closeness to nature and to its creatures was the best I have ever experienced!

What our customers ask about Bolivia Small Group Tours
What is the average duration of small group tours in Bolivia?
Small group tours in Bolivia typically run between 3 to 12 days. Short excursions to the Uyuni Salt Flats take 3-4 days while comprehensive country tours spanning La Paz Lake Titicaca and Uyuni stretch to 7-10 days. Many tours begin at the Hotel Rosario Santa Cruz a convenient launching point for exploring the country. As one TourRadar traveler notes "7-10 days is ideal for a small group to explore Bolivia's highlights without feeling rushed."
What unique accommodations are available on small group tours in Bolivia?
Bolivia's small group tours feature distinctive lodging options that reflect the country's landscapes. The Palacio de Sal Hotel near Uyuni stands out with its salt block construction while community-managed properties like Tambo Coquesa Lodge offer authentic local experiences. In La Paz modern options like Hotel Europa provide urban comfort. A TourRadar guest notes "staying at the salt hotel was an incredible experience with even the beds and furniture made from salt blocks."
How does transportation work on small group tours in Bolivia?
Transportation on Bolivia's small group tours combines private vehicles with specialized 4x4s. Each vehicle accommodates 4-6 travelers ensuring comfort during long journeys. The Uyuni Salt Flats portion uses dedicated 4WD vehicles limited to 6 passengers. According to a TourRadar traveler: "The 4x4 transport through the Salt Flats was excellent - our driver was stellar and having a smaller vehicle meant we could reach places larger groups couldn't access."
What makes small group tours in Bolivia better than larger group tours?
Small group formats in Bolivia allow for route adjustments and access to remote spots like Isla del Sol and Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. Groups move efficiently between locations spending more time at key sites like the Uyuni Salt Flats. Boutique properties such as Hotel de Sal Luna Salada cater well to smaller groups. A TourRadar participant shares: "Having only 8 people in our group meant we could stay at unique properties like salt hotels and spend more time photographing flamingos at Laguna Colorada without feeling rushed."
Which areas of Bolivia are best suited for small group travel?
The vast expanse of Uyuni Salt Flats Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve and Lake Titicaca region work particularly well for small groups. These destinations require 4x4 access naturally limiting group sizes at locations like Laguna Colorada and Incahuasi Island. One TourRadar traveler notes "the small group size was perfect for photographing flamingos at the lagoons and exploring the salt flats at sunrise."
How much interaction is there with local communities on small group tours?
Local engagement runs deep on small group tours especially around Lake Titicaca and Uyuni. The Jukil Community Lodge offers salt-brick accommodations managed by local families who prepare traditional meals for guests. A TourRadar participant reflects: "The small group size allowed us to have meaningful interactions with the Aymara people especially during our homestay near Lake Titicaca."
