- Angela· January 12th, 2019From J'Burg all the way to Nairobi was a fantastic journey with Acacia. I have had the best time throughout the 30 days on this overland trip. Pete, the tour guide is awesome and well-organised. Francis, the driver is the super funny and friendly. They've really made the trip to another level. What's more is their cooking, oh my god, we are so spoiled. When I have a chance, I will definitely jump on another overland truck with Acacia.Show moreAcacia Adventure Holidays commented on this reviewThank you Angela for the great review. Pete and Francis will be thrilled to hear they made your holiday such a memorable one. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Regards, the Acacia Africa teamTrip date: December 2018
- RRosalindAnders· December 25th, 2018I found it was a tour of two halves due to a terrible tour guide that took over half way through. He did not make vegetarian options, saying that their is side is not an apporitate meal (e.g salad and a roll where everyone got hot dogs). He did not know his facts e.g the equator is to the east.... or the itinerary e.g we would sit around for an hour and he would be no where in sight and when he came about he would not know what we were waiting for. Also would start yelling at the whole group on three occasions. I go to learn about the area and the culture and I feel that I did not with rimz as such I would recommend g adventures as a reliable company that I have always had quality with.Show moreTrip date: December 2018
- RRossCrozier· June 28th, 2018Not long back from this tour and I had a great time so I thought I'd let others know. Overall, the tour was well organised and the guides ensured we felt safe at all times. The truck was well equipped and I was surprised at how comfortable the seats were - so comfortable I was able to sleep despite the 'African massages' along the way. Despite the fact that some of the journeys were quite long, being able to sleep certainly helped. Some of the journeys on this trip are quite long but they are unavoidable if you want to see these parts of Africa. Anyway, the route was quite scenic and the guides provided info about the surrounding area along the way and we stopped every so often to stretch our legs. The main guide, Sammy, also informed us when to stock up on snacks and drinks at the better supermarkets as a lot of the local shops were poorly supplied as you can imagine. Most of the stops had some form of toilet however my group found that the bush toilets were generally cleaner (this is Africa after all). The tents provided were pretty good and the mattresses were spot on too. I have to say, one of the things I was anxious about before going on the trip was the quality of the meals as catering for large groups often leads to small portions of massively overdone food but both Sam and Ali were great cooks and we always had plenty to eat. We also stopped at local kitchens to try some of the local cuisine for lunch which was another good experience. Our particular group had lots of allergies/food intolerances (seafood, nuts, dairy, gluten and shellfish to name a few) and Sam always provided options for these people - to the extent that one person had to reject his meals so they could use up some of their own food to create some room in their suitcase. Finally, our guide Sammy was excellent along the way and his local knowledge was invaluable for us between helping getting currency changed to recommending where to buy gifts etc. One of the more negative reviews says to do this trip on your own steam which seems like a very romantic idea but without being able to speak the local language (Sam can speak 8 apparently) and knowing how to deal with the corrupt policemen you will only end up wishing you had someone like Sam guiding you. Bad point(s0: When I was at Lake Malawi the lake was quite rough so snorkelling wasn't going to be worthwhile but I guess it's just one of those things and Acacia can't exactly control the weather Highlights of the trip: South Luangwa - we were fortunate to get VERY close to a pair of lions in heat The Serengeti - seeing The Great Wildebeest Migration was spectacular Would recommend.Show moreAcacia Adventure Holidays commented on this reviewDear Ross - it is always a pleasure to receive a review such as yours. Asked on March 8th, 2025On the 21 day Vic Falls to Nairobi - accommodated, do I assume that the accommodation is all share bathroom, or are there en-suites for couples?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written March 2025
Accommodation on tour is modest tourist class twin share with most properties having en suite bathroom. There are however two nights basic camping - where Acacia provides camping equipment including sleeping bag and pillow - which is in the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.

Traveler•Written September 2024I am a solo traveling man of 68. Will I fit with the group? Are there other singles? How are accommodations arranged for solo travelers? Are there extra costs and if so, how much?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written September 2024
As a single man you would be welcome however we cannot take any more clients on the accommodated tour. You would be welcome to join the camping tour - we provide all camping equipment except a sleeping bag. The itinerary and highlights are the same as for the accommodated tour.

Asked on May 10th, 2023just wanted to know if you arrange pre tour accommodation if i choose this one - I want to spend 3/4 days before at Victoria falls - was just wondering if i could get help with accommodation and airport transfer and what the rates are happy to pay whatever rate - but seeing as it is africa, it'll make it easy if the tour can arrange this
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written May 2023
Yes we arrange pre and post tour accommodation (Nairobi/ Livingstone). In Nairobi a single ensuite room in the Hotel Boulevard is AUD 145/ night (B&B); In Livingstone an ensuite room at the Victoria Falls Waterfront Resort is AUD 275 / night B&B, but they also have lower cost pre-erected tents (share bathroom) for AUD 95/night B&B.

Traveler•Written May 2023want to do the tour in September - and was contemplating between doing this tour or the 24-day Masai Mara to Victoria Falls Camping. I will be doing it end of September till October. I was told Victoria falls is better in September - so do the falls first and then head to Kenya last. What would you advise?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written May 2023
When I was a tourleader I usually preferred doing the trip from North to South because facilities, infrastructure slowly get better as you come south and I always liked Livingstone/ Vic Falls as a nice place to finish up. However the water level over Victoria Falls is lower in October than September and some say looks less impressive, although the lower water level does mean you can see right down into the Batoka gorge. The other factor is that October is very hot (day time temps often above 30 centigrade), so that may influence your thinking. The final point for now is that northbound trip visits South Luangwa National park which the south-bound trip does not - so again it's worth considering.

Asked on November 21st, 2017What is the Adventure Pass?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written November 2017
Every Acacia Overland tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour (or pre-paid by arrangement prior to your tour). This is separate and in addition to the Tour Price, and covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way where payment goes directly to the supplier to ensure local suppliers benefit directly from the income.
