- Angela· January 12th, 2019From J'Burg all the way to Nairobi was a fantastic journey with Acacia. I have had the best time throughout the 30 days on this overland trip. Pete, the tour guide is awesome and well-organised. Francis, the driver is the super funny and friendly. They've really made the trip to another level. What's more is their cooking, oh my god, we are so spoiled. When I have a chance, I will definitely jump on another overland truck with Acacia.Show moreAcacia Adventure Holidays commented on this reviewThank you Angela for the great review. Pete and Francis will be thrilled to hear they made your holiday such a memorable one. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Regards, the Acacia Africa teamTrip date: December 2018
- RRosalindAnders· December 25th, 2018I found it was a tour of two halves due to a terrible tour guide that took over half way through. He did not make vegetarian options, saying that their is side is not an apporitate meal (e.g salad and a roll where everyone got hot dogs). He did not know his facts e.g the equator is to the east.... or the itinerary e.g we would sit around for an hour and he would be no where in sight and when he came about he would not know what we were waiting for. Also would start yelling at the whole group on three occasions. I go to learn about the area and the culture and I feel that I did not with rimz as such I would recommend g adventures as a reliable company that I have always had quality with.Show moreTrip date: December 2018
- RRossCrozier· June 28th, 2018Not long back from this tour and I had a great time so I thought I'd let others know. Overall, the tour was well organised and the guides ensured we felt safe at all times. The truck was well equipped and I was surprised at how comfortable the seats were - so comfortable I was able to sleep despite the 'African massages' along the way. Despite the fact that some of the journeys were quite long, being able to sleep certainly helped. Some of the journeys on this trip are quite long but they are unavoidable if you want to see these parts of Africa. Anyway, the route was quite scenic and the guides provided info about the surrounding area along the way and we stopped every so often to stretch our legs. The main guide, Sammy, also informed us when to stock up on snacks and drinks at the better supermarkets as a lot of the local shops were poorly supplied as you can imagine. Most of the stops had some form of toilet however my group found that the bush toilets were generally cleaner (this is Africa after all). The tents provided were pretty good and the mattresses were spot on too. I have to say, one of the things I was anxious about before going on the trip was the quality of the meals as catering for large groups often leads to small portions of massively overdone food but both Sam and Ali were great cooks and we always had plenty to eat. We also stopped at local kitchens to try some of the local cuisine for lunch which was another good experience. Our particular group had lots of allergies/food intolerances (seafood, nuts, dairy, gluten and shellfish to name a few) and Sam always provided options for these people - to the extent that one person had to reject his meals so they could use up some of their own food to create some room in their suitcase. Finally, our guide Sammy was excellent along the way and his local knowledge was invaluable for us between helping getting currency changed to recommending where to buy gifts etc. One of the more negative reviews says to do this trip on your own steam which seems like a very romantic idea but without being able to speak the local language (Sam can speak 8 apparently) and knowing how to deal with the corrupt policemen you will only end up wishing you had someone like Sam guiding you. Bad point(s0: When I was at Lake Malawi the lake was quite rough so snorkelling wasn't going to be worthwhile but I guess it's just one of those things and Acacia can't exactly control the weather Highlights of the trip: South Luangwa - we were fortunate to get VERY close to a pair of lions in heat The Serengeti - seeing The Great Wildebeest Migration was spectacular Would recommend.Show moreAcacia Adventure Holidays commented on this reviewDear Ross - it is always a pleasure to receive a review such as yours. Asked on May 27th, 2025Is it possible to stay in hotels at some locations?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written May 2025
You may book the Camping tour and "upgrade-as-you-go", meaning that upon arrival to a campsite/establishment you can enquire directly with Reception for room options and availability and pay the difference for an upgrade from camping to a room locally and directly. Of course this is subject to room options and availability upon arrival. We do not have the costs of this, as they are subject to change per season and at the hotels discretion. Alternatively you could book the Accommodated version of the tour.

Asked on August 4th, 2024I wanted to know where do I fly to from Kathmandu to meet with the touring guides. And what are the dates and the airport to fly back from.

Traveler•Written August 2024I am interested in checking the seat availability for the upcoming tour on 23 August. What is the total for this tour?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written August 2024
The EAE21 tour departing 23 August/ ending in Nairobi 12Sept, is available and guaranteed to operate. Currently we have 9 or 10 clients in the group. The price is split into a main tour price and a separate Adventure Pass: Tour price USD 3275, plus Adventure Pass USD 935. Most nationalities including US passport holders, require a visa for Tanzania (available on tour at the border, USD 50) and for Kenya. The Kenyan visa is called an electronic Travel Authority and must be obtained online before arriving into Kenya. I would also recommend you speak to a doctor or medical professional about health precautions including for anti-malarial tablets. Note also that visitors to Zanzibar Island must show a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Card.

Asked on May 9th, 2024I am an avid photographer both film and video, which requires battery charging. I am also need to use a CPAP machine for snoring which also requires a battery. All batteries need recharging at some point. Do we have outlets anywhere along the trip for recharging batteries. And if so, how often and for how long? Very important to answer as truthfully as possible. My sleep and health and photography depend on this question.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written May 2024
The tour truck has charging facility and in most campsites along the way it is possible to charge batteries - however - on a tour of this nature and duration we cannot promise 24/7 power supply or that charging facilities wont fail from time to time. We are travelling through some remote and very rural areas where services and facilities lack the reliability you find in Europe. That said, we have carried other clients who carry a CPAP machine and many are keen photographers.

Asked on April 16th, 2024Could you provide the quote for a single supplement? Traveller prefers to stay in a single private room.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written April 2024
Accommodation on tour is in twin share tents and we do not offer a single supplement. If we have an odd number of men and women in the group, someone will have a tent to themselves (this is arranged on the day and is not promised in advance).
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written April 2024
In Livingstone at the departure point hotel we can offer ensuite single rooms for USD 150/night Bed and breakfast. An airport transfer from Livingstone international is USD 50 one way. In Nairobi the Hotel Boulevard is USD 100/night B&B; an airport transfer is USD 45 (or you can hire a taxi locally).

Accommodation on tour is twin share which means if you are joining the tour on your own, you would be sharing with another passenger of the same sex. We can certainly assist with arranging accommodation in Livingstone before the tour and in Nairobi afterwards.

Asked on February 9th, 2022My friend and I would like to inquire about a custom safari itinerary. We want to visit Amboseli, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater. We prefer a shared group trip, sleeping in beds or large tents with beds, ideally high end / luxury lodges. We want to travel slowly and spend a few days in each major location. We do NOT want Zanzibar or beach included.
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written February 2022
We cannot assist. Our scheduled tours do not follow quite the same route and we dont have availability until later in the year.

Asked on September 1st, 2016Does this tour allow travelers over the age of 40 join the tour?
- Acacia Adventure HolidaysOperator•Written September 2016
Acacia Africa specifically markets their tours to 18-39 year olds exclusively as they encourage backpackers and young travellers. This is simply so that first time travellers or other young people can be comfortable that they will be travelling with people their own age only.
