The route, the actual Inca Trail is incredible how you can actually walk on the original stone steps built by the ancient Incas. Beware of the crowds, but you will meet a lot of interesting people. Without him we would not have been able to fully appreciate everything we saw on the Inca Trail. He explained tons of tiny details right at the right time, so we would appreciate the Inca architecture and culture. It was magical, especially arriving to Machupicchu by way of the sungate. - AAndres Bailey· January 8th, 2020We had been looking forward to doing this trek for years and once we finally decided to bite the bullet, we booked way in advance to make sure we got in on the limited number of trekking permits. It IS a VERY POPULAR trek and with that means there are A LOT of people every day hiking alongside you, so that can take away from the charm of the experience, but it is still so cool to enter Machu Picchu through the sungate (Inti Punku) and descend on the site as ancient Incas once would have. We would maybe have booked an alternative trek if we would have read more about it. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time, but would have liked something a little less touristy.
