- Greg· August 24th, 2025We enjoyed the destinations overall, hotels were a mixed bag, some very good with modern amenities and bright clean bathrooms. Others were very average small dark rooms with no space at all for two adults. Expat bus was new and very comfortable. Our driver Alex was very professional as was tour manager Rachelle. Would consider another trip with Expat again depending on destination.Show moreTrip date: August 2025

- Kristi· August 8th, 2025We went into this tour knowing it was going to be fast paced, and it certainly was. The days that are indicated as "free" usually aren't as a city tour or other tour are offered. We skipped one and our guide didn't seem happy about it, but we needed down time. Also important to note is that the optional excursions are quite expensive. As a family of 4 we did three of them and spent 1000 euros additional. We enjoyed them, they are good offerings, but I would recommend skipping the ones with included meals as the meals are quite boring and you would be better off finding your own dinners. Also important to note is the "guide" is more of just an organizer, at least in our case. He was very abrupt (cultural difference?) and most of the time seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Several things such as hotel check ins could have been handled better logistically. We would have appreciated advice in situations where he was experienced, and we were not - such as at the salt mine when it was raining, to know we had to stand in line out in the rain would have let us know to bring umbrellas. We also did not receive the full itinerary of the tour with hotels and timelines until 2 days before the tour started - would have really appreciated a little more advance notice here just to do my own research. For the people who appreciate American air conditioning - all hotels indicate that it is available, but it is not. Only one of the hotels would be a choice to return to. All in all, I am glad we took this tour to experience a taste of many different cities, but would not do the same or similar tour again.Show moreTrip date: July 2025
- DBDavid· August 3rd, 2025In general the tour was great and our tour guide Peter looked after us well. Not doing the Budapest + option was disappointing as only 9 from 37 signed up and needed a minimum of 10. The tipping system is a bit annoying especially for us from Australia. As a single traveller I paid a decent amount for the tour and then having to pay another €250 for options plus each tour guide expecting a tip can easily set you back another €100. Then envelops are provided to tip the driver and the tour guide which based on printed recommendations can set you back another €200. The bus was comfortable but the usb c for new iPhones was not compatible so perhaps need to look into that. We got the stickers but not the passport book to stick them into after it was advertised before we started our journey. I think the tour should start with Day 1 there to check in and everyone meets up for dinner. Too many arrived late and missed the Munich tour. Need to remember after a long flight you just want to recover first. There should also be a dinner included on the last night rather than everyone doing their own thing and the tour ending with breakfast the next day saw some missing out in saying goodbye to fellow travellers. WhatsApp group was good to communicate and location pins shared for each return would be great rather than me needing to remember to pin the location before taking off. With free time, travellers need some solid ideas and guidance of what can be done to ensure they arrive back on time.Show moreTrip date: July 2025
- JHJason· July 20th, 2025Overall was a good holiday. Some places were too rushed, some hotels did not have Aircon when it was very hot. The driver and the Tour guide were really good. The food which was included was authentic but not very good value for money. The destinations revisited were very good and the itinerary was well managed.Show moreTrip date: July 2025
- GGGerald· July 17th, 2025We covered a great distance in only 11 days. We were exhausted by tour end and would have preferred a more relaxed pace. The tour leader and driver were great. Some hotels lacked A/C and were uncomfortable in July. Payment for optional excursions prior to the tour start not communicated as an option, which would have been my preferred method.Show moreTrip date: July 2025

One of the reviews said that tour didn't end in Munich!

You can spend 2 to 3hours on the coach with comfort stops inbetween. The provisional meeting and ending point is Mercure Hotel Munchen Neuperlach Sud. Please note the above is provisional and subject to change.

Asked on June 21st, 2025Next year my husband will be 77. He is well and fit for his age and we travel independently often. It says on this trip suitable for ages up to 75. I am 68 years. As we are both well and fit would the age be a problem? Just before I book?
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written June 2025
That should not be a problem but it will actually be up to your husband if he wishes to participate with our tour, given it's active nature. We believe the best way to get to the heart and soul of a city is on foot, surrounded by the people and the culture. For this reason, we do walking tours through most of the cities we visit. Many of the cities you visit are vast and old, often with steps and cobblestones. Our walking tours can last up to 3 hours with plenty of opportunities to take photographs and soak up the history of these fascinating places, but you do require a certain level of fitness to enjoy your tour to its fullest. If the above information is fine with your husband and will not post any risks for him, then he is more than welcome to the tour.

Asked on June 7th, 2025What hotel are we checking into? I want to plan everything ahead of time and will most likely travel to Paris after the trip ends.
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written June 2025
At this stage, we're unable to confirm the specific hotel you'll be checking into, as your departure is still quite far in advance. Hotel allocations are subject to change, and to avoid any confusion, we don't release even provisional hotel lists this early. These details also vary by tour and departure date and are available to confirmed bookings. We can confirm that your meeting point will be in Munich, Germany, as that's where the tour officially begins. We recommend checking back with us around 90 days before departure for the most up-to-date hotel information.

Asked on June 1st, 2025could you please confirm the details of the hotel in Munich that this tour commences (eastern highlights). I would like to book some additional nights accommodation

Your Eastern Highlights tour in Munich begins at the Mercure Hotel München Neuperlach Süd. Meeting Point: Mercure Hotel München Neuperlach Süd. Address: Rudolf-Vogel-Bogen 3, 81739 München, Germany. Asked on May 21st, 2025Is there a way to book the optional excursions prior to our booked tour.
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written May 2025
Yes, great question! While most optional excursions can be booked directly with your tour leader during the tour, there are a few marked as "pre-book", which means they can be reserved in advance through us.

Asked on April 29th, 2025Is my 79-year-old mum able to attend the tour?
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written April 2025
Your mom is welcome to join the tour as long as she is aware of the level of fitness required. We do walking tours through cities that can last up to 3 hours with steps and cobblestones. She needs a certain level of fitness to enjoy the tour fully.

Asked on April 3rd, 2025I have been considering your Eastern Highlights tour for next year but a couple of your reviews mention having to use public transport a lot to and from the hotels as they are away from the city centres. As the reviews are from a few years ago I wondered if that is still the case as that would be quite a significant difficulty for me.
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written April 2025
We do make use of public transport which is guided by your tour leader in some cities which is sometimes the best way to move around and see so much. Most of the time we make use of the coach when driving between cities.
- P
Pauline
Traveler•Written April 2025So I wouldn't have to negotiate public transport alone in a strange city and country? The guide would show me where to go and what train to get on etc?
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written April 2025
That is absolutely correct. You can ask for tips and recommendations from your Tour Leader whenever you spend your free time or free day and ensure that you get to make the most out of your experience.
