Very happy to have joined this tour especially for the first timer like me. A huge thank you to our lovely tour guide Rachelle Brown for giving us tips what to do, what and where eat, what to prepare and everything under the sun to make sure we are comfortable and making the most of our time together. If given a choice i love to be my tour guide again.

The itinerary was ok. Maybe remove Slovenia and add a night in Vienna. Our tour leader Peter Keron of Expat Explore made the trip exceptional. Very knowledgeable and fun. I think he went beyond his call of duty to entertain our group. For those who plan this trip expect a lot of bus traveling since you will be visiting 7 countries.

We enjoyed the destinations overall, hotels were a mixed bag, some very good with modern amenities and bright clean bathrooms. Others were very average small dark rooms with no space at all for two adults. Expat bus was new and very comfortable. Our driver Alex was very professional as was tour manager Rachelle. Would consider another trip with Expat again depending on destination.

We went into this tour knowing it was going to be fast paced, and it certainly was. The days that are indicated as "free" usually aren't as a city tour or other tour are offered. We skipped one and our guide didn't seem happy about it, but we needed down time. Also important to note is that the optional excursions are quite expensive. As a family of 4 we did three of them and spent 1000 euros additional. We enjoyed them, they are good offerings, but I would recommend skipping the ones with included meals as the meals are quite boring and you would be better off finding your own dinners. Also important to note is the "guide" is more of just an organizer, at least in our case. He was very abrupt (cultural difference?) and most of the time seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Several things such as hotel check ins could have been handled better logistically. We would have appreciated advice in situations where he was experienced, and we were not - such as at the salt mine when it was raining, to know we had to stand in line out in the rain would have let us know to bring umbrellas. We also did not receive the full itinerary of the tour with hotels and timelines until 2 days before the tour started - would have really appreciated a little more advance notice here just to do my own research. For the people who appreciate American air conditioning - all hotels indicate that it is available, but it is not. Only one of the hotels would be a choice to return to. All in all, I am glad we took this tour to experience a taste of many different cities, but would not do the same or similar tour again.

In general the tour was great and our tour guide Peter looked after us well. Not doing the Budapest + option was disappointing as only 9 from 37 signed up and needed a minimum of 10. The tipping system is a bit annoying especially for us from Australia. As a single traveller I paid a decent amount for the tour and then having to pay another €250 for options plus each tour guide expecting a tip can easily set you back another €100. Then envelops are provided to tip the driver and the tour guide which based on printed recommendations can set you back another €200. The bus was comfortable but the usb c for new iPhones was not compatible so perhaps need to look into that. We got the stickers but not the passport book to stick them into after it was advertised before we started our journey. I think the tour should start with Day 1 there to check in and everyone meets up for dinner. Too many arrived late and missed the Munich tour. Need to remember after a long flight you just want to recover first. There should also be a dinner included on the last night rather than everyone doing their own thing and the tour ending with breakfast the next day saw some missing out in saying goodbye to fellow travellers. WhatsApp group was good to communicate and location pins shared for each return would be great rather than me needing to remember to pin the location before taking off. With free time, travellers need some solid ideas and guidance of what can be done to ensure they arrive back on time.

Overall was a good holiday. Some places were too rushed, some hotels did not have Aircon when it was very hot. The driver and the Tour guide were really good. The food which was included was authentic but not very good value for money. The destinations revisited were very good and the itinerary was well managed.

We covered a great distance in only 11 days. We were exhausted by tour end and would have preferred a more relaxed pace. The tour leader and driver were great. Some hotels lacked A/C and were uncomfortable in July. Payment for optional excursions prior to the tour start not communicated as an option, which would have been my preferred method.

How do I arrange transportation to and from the airport connections? How do I view/book the excursions? Are there any additional fees outside of booking fees? Outside of a passport do I need any other documentation ahead of time? How many are going in the group? How are meeting times and places coordinated? Is there anything else I should know being a first-time land tour goer? Is the tour fast paced? Is there much free-time built in to the trip?

For the airport transfer is there a way to pay through you all? Just curious if thats an option. Also I figured i would have to pay for the excursions during the trip with cash or card, am I correct that they cant be prebooked? One other question I thought of is if you guys for some reason need to change the tour date would you give me notice?

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten October 2025

Regrettably, we can no longer assist with transfers, thus all payments will be made directly to the service provider you choose to go with. All pre-book optional excursions are to be booked and paid for in advance. All other optional excursions is to be booked and paid for on tour to your tour leader. If we cancel the tour due to unforeseen circumstance (very unlikely for this to happen) we would indeed notify you ahead of time.

      Melissa

      TravelerWritten October 2025

Are there any excursions available for Bratislava or Lake Bled? Or are those shorter tours? More for a quick walk through and some photo taking? The other question I thought of is how would I buy the dining package to get the dinners on the trip, I'm guessing the excursions would probably include most of them? But would I pre-book that or buy it on the tour?

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten October 2025

In terms of optional excursions, most can be booked directly with your tour leader during the trip and paid for in local cash or by credit card. Prices and availability are subject to change. Pre-bookable optional excursions are non-refundable once confirmed. Meals included in the itinerary are already covered, but optional excursions may also include some meals as part of the experience. Additional dinners can be enjoyed during free time at your own pace, often with recommendations from your tour leader.

does it still go ahead if you are the only person who is booked for particular dates or do you cancel it/move travellers to other dates etc.

    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten August 2025

We always do our best to ensure that our tours go ahead as planned, and once a departure reaches around 12 or more passengers, you can feel confident it will proceed. It's only on very rare occasions that we might have a departure with just one or very few travelers booked, and in such cases, the tour could be subject to cancellation. If that were to happen, we would always notify you well in advance and provide alternative options such as moving to a nearby departure date that already has more travelers confirmed.

We only have 1 June 2026 Departure (June 10, 2026 Start Date). Although the number of confirmed bookings for that schedule does not yet meet the minimum number, but as this is a popular tour, the number of confirmed booking is expected to go up soon.

    Age Range
    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten June 2025

That should not be a problem but it will actually be up to your husband if he wishes to participate with our tour, given it's active nature. We believe the best way to get to the heart and soul of a city is on foot, surrounded by the people and the culture. For this reason, we do walking tours through most of the cities we visit. Many of the cities you visit are vast and old, often with steps and cobblestones. Our walking tours can last up to 3 hours with plenty of opportunities to take photographs and soak up the history of these fascinating places, but you do require a certain level of fitness to enjoy your tour to its fullest. If the above information is fine with your husband and will not post any risks for him, then he is more than welcome to the tour.
