- CKChristian· April 28th, 2023Automatic translation available in English. View in EnglishThe first week in Kenya was very nice. The second week in Tanzania consisted of 80% bus ride and was therefore rather exhausting and partly annoying and thus did not correspond to the tour description in several parts. (It is often bus rides to the next CampGround and no GameDrives). The food is very good on the trip, however, the food repeats itself after a few days, so that one misses as Europe some variety in the food. Of course, you should also tip, but it was a bit irritating with our cultural understanding that the topic of tipping and its amount was already addressed in the welcome meeting (even before the start of the trip) as a 3rd point and we thought "Do at the price first what, before you ask for more money".Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewHi Christian, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. - IInga· July 22nd, 2018I can‘t recommend that tour. The bus is way too big for its purpose. We got stuck in the mud three times due to the weight of the bus and missed parts of our safari through that. Also, the breaks of the bus broke in the middle of Masai Mara and we got stuck there until nearly midnight. Some guests had to help the bus driver repair the bus outside, surrounded by lions and with no weapons. Very dangerous! Also the bus is not good for game drives, as it‘s too big to go close to animals. This should be done with a jeep. Additionally, the tour leader was terrible. She did nearly nothing, giving us no information about culture etc. and didn‘t know how to deal with problems. The cook was also not recommendable. One third of our group got terrible food poisoning at the same time. Imagine having to run out of your tent all night in a non-fenced camp in the Serengeti. Scary! Both the cook and the tour leader didn‘t know how to handle the situation. They didn‘t even offer appropriate food to the ones sick. I was very disappointed that Intrepid didn‘t inform the tour leader that my birthday was on that tour. So nothing was prepared. Terrible customer management! What I liked: The tour itinerary was very good. The campgrounds were simple, but nice and in good locations.Show moreTrip date: January 2017
- CBCiaran· June 21st, 2016Enjoyable fortnight. Made up as a combination of 2 intrepid trips. First week best for culture, second week best for safari, particularly the serengeti. Saw all of the big 5, though in the masai mara I did not really think the truck used for the game drive was suitable. Guide was good, food was decent, lots of carrots. Only real other negative was having to travel back to nairobi in the middle of the trip, then pretty much the same way back the next day. Seemed like 2 wasted days.Show moreTrip date: May 2016

Asked on November 22nd, 2024When the accommodations are Camping with facilities could you explain what that means.
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written November 2024
Campsites do have basic facilities, but they usually aren't to the same standard you would find in Western countries. For example, the bathroom facilities can be very basic. Toilet paper is rarely provided, and shower facilities can be as simple as a hose pipe spurting out cold water. Wild camps have no facilities at all. Camping with facilities means it is well-situated with flush toilets and showers.

Campsites do have facilities but they usually aren't the same standard you would find in western countries.
