Santiago de Compostela to Sarria
You'll arrive at Santiago de Compostela Airport at 4:30pm and get a transfer heading south toward Sarria. This medieval town sits in Galicia's hills with narrow cobblestone streets winding between old stone buildings. The 13th-century castle ruins overlook the area, and you'll see the beautiful Romanesque Church of Santa Marina, which marks the official start of your Camino walk. Getting settled in and having dinner tonight gives you a chance to rest before the pilgrimage begins tomorrow morning.

- Day 2
Sarria to Portomarin
Your first full day covers 22 kilometres walking through rolling Galician hills. The route takes you past the hamlet of Ferreiros and brings you to the famous 100-kilometre marker, a significant waypoint where many pilgrims stop to catch their breath and reflect. After that, you'll continue on to Portomarin, a medieval village that was relocated to higher ground years ago. The Romanesque San Pedro church sits among narrow streets that hint at the town's more prosperous past.

- Day 3
Portomarin to Palas do Rei
Starting with a scenic crossing of the reservoir on a preserved disused railway bridge, you'll wind uphill through rolling countryside. Near Castromaior you'll pass the 80-kilometre marker, then walk by Casa Carneiro, a medieval inn with history including visits from Emperor Charles V. The trail climbs to a final high pass at 722 metres near Ligonde where the landscape opens up for sweeping views. After that you'll descend through eucalyptus groves past Galician stone crosses called Cruceiros before reaching your accommodation near Palas do Rei.

Palas do Rei to Melide
Today takes you through idyllic rural Galicia with traditional stone farmhouses, grazing cattle, and green pastures surrounding the trail. You'll walk through ancient oak groves and eucalyptus plantations, then reach the hamlet of A Coruna before crossing an atmospheric medieval bridge with four weathered stone arches into Melide. This town is famous throughout Galicia for octopus preparation. Tonight you're staying in a typical Galician farmhouse with a traditional dinner featuring local ingredients and the region's signature pulpo a la Gallega, tender octopus with paprika and olive oil, paired with crisp white wine.

Melide to El Amenal
Walking past numerous horreos (regional barns), you'll start noticing more signs that Santiago is getting closer, with pilgrim villages appearing more frequently. After crossing the River Iso you'll reach Arzua, where two major Camino routes meet—the French Way and the North Way. This area is also known for its soft cheese. You'll stop at pilgrimage sites including Guillermo Watt's memorial and Santa Irene Chapel with its statues of Saint James. The day ends in the small village of El Amenal where you'll check into your hotel.

This is your final day on the pilgrimage walking into Santiago de Compostela. The route passes through Lavacolla, where pilgrims traditionally washed and changed into their best clothes before the last stretch. You'll ascend the final hill to Monte Gozo where you'll catch your first glimpse of Santiago Cathedral in the distance. The last five kilometres are shared with thousands of pilgrims from around the world, all experiencing the same emotions and reflecting on the journey. After completing the trail you'll claim your Compostela, the official pilgrim's certificate.

A local guide leads you through Santiago de Compostela with a visit to the cathedral, the final and most important stop of the Camino pilgrimage. You'll explore the Romanesque structure with its Gothic, Baroque, Plateresque and Neoclassical additions. Walking through important local squares, churches and buildings around the cathedral gives you context for the religious significance of this place. The afternoon opens up for you to wander the narrow streets, find architectural details, and try local food and wine at your own pace.
