Beautiful boat - lovely gracious staff - nice food. Relaxing tour that had a mix of kayaking, snorkelling and sight seeing. One day was a bit windy so we hunkered down on the boat. Brought our own beer from town that we could keep in the cooler. Mix of tenting and staying on the boat was nice. Wandered through a small village and saw a school - wondered about the tokenism of donating to children here. Overall, thank you for an unforgettable 5 days!

It was an absolutely fantastic adventure from the kayaking to the komodo dragons, to snorkling with manta rays and seeing the beautiful islands. The boat was great and so well kept (compared to many of the others sailing around). The whole crew and our guide Mattias made us feel so welcome. Mattias' knowledge of the best kayaking and snorkling spots is invaluable.

I travel a lot. I also am an oceanographer and teacher so I spend a lot time in the ocean and also spend a lot of time with students. This trip was made exceptional because of the crew. They are a well oiled machine: each one has a clear role but they work we as a team. This makes everything flow effortlessly to maximize fun and enjoyment of the guests and keep everyone safe. They are top notch! There local knowledge is evident as they navigate both the larger ship and the small boats. They are very in tune with the needs and abilities Of the guests and are able to adjust and provide the appropriate experience. Highly recommend

Everything was perfect! I think our best holiday ever. Peter and Irene were so helpful in answering all our questions and putting our mind at ease the whole time. Even during COVID times or when we needed a last minute reschedule because of a weather warning. Once out on the trip, Flori and the team were awesome and tailored the tour to our pace and fancy, while also optimising for weather and safety. Each day had two sessions of kayaking of varying length depending how tired/up for it we were (a chance to see the beautiful landscape of Komodo park, wild dragons and stop at stunning beaches, without any other tourists). Then outside of that we would stop at all the famous spots in Komodo (pick beack, padar hike, dragons walk, manta point, turtle city etc) and all times inbetween could be spent in the sun or shaded deck reading a book with a beer or having a snorkel. It was paradise.

We went on the 5-day Komodo Kayak tour with No Roads in April 2017. This tour blew my expectations out of the water! Kayaking around this beautiful region was the best way to get up close with the abundant marine life. We had Dolphins and turtles swimming past us, we swam with manta rays, we snorkelled amongst beautiful coral reefs and saw the most stunning fish. The kayaking was not overly strenuous. As the islands are so close, each leg took around 2 hrs, with lots of rest stops. There was also a support boat on hand if needed. Each day offered up something unexpected and exciting. We swam in a magical cave pool, we visited a school in a small fishing village, we climbed to the top of a hill to see some ancient stone monuments, we visited an opal farm and, oh I nearly forgot to mention, we saw Komodo dragons! The trip was well organized by the No Roads staff in Australia as well as the Indonesian team. The guide, Florey was very friendly and knew a lot about the local environment and customs. The crew, Yub (the cook), and deck hands, Lexi and Sipri, were incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Everyday Yub cooked up a feast which was fresh, different and exceptionally tasty! I can't recommend this tour highly enough! Check out my video to see our awesome experience. https://youtu.be/UTvJ3hh5cFQ

Absolutely wonderful experience, the staff were attentive, it was a great mix of good exercise and relaxation. The kayaking was good, the snorkeling amazing. Camping was a special treat. If I could make one suggestion for improvement, it would be nice if each kayak was provided with a 1 liter dry-bag with attached float and carabiner, so that camera's and whatnot could be more safely carried on the kayaks. In the absence of such, each participant should make sure they bring a ziplock bag.

We wanted a trip that involved lots of kayaking, lots of snorkelling, some walking and loads of beautiful places to look at. We got this and much more! Food on our boat was first class, we could not have wanted for anything. All the team on the boat and our fantastic guide Matias were exceptionalwith everything catered for. Nothing was too much trouble. The snorkelling spots were generally away from the touristy places and Matias had his very special place that was just fantastic. Could not want for more. A thoroughly well organised, unique experience that will give us many wonderful memories. Thanks so much! Just loved it!!

My wife and I just completed a Komodo kayaking trip with NoRoads and I have to say it was absolutely fantastic. The local team really made a big effort to make sure we not only had a great time but also returned in one piece, especially given that I arrived to start the trip slightly damaged with badly sprained ankle. Food was brilliant including lots of freshly caught seafood for me and lots of variations for my vegetarian wife. Matias our kayaking guide was also a real plus. He was great communicator, full of energy, enthusiasm and understanding of local weather, winds and currents. His passion for taking us to his favourite snorkels resulted in an overload of great underwater photos. Thanks to all the team locally in Australia and on the trip. Great job Matias, Cua, Lexi, Yub and Aven! We'll be back and bringing our friends along. P & J

Totally amazing!! Thank you No Roads Team, Mathias and crew - we had the most fabulous and spectacular holiday! We loved the mix of kayaking in stunning surroundings, snorkelling around coral islands in pristine waters, relaxing on the boat and beaches and trekking in Rinca to see Komodo dragons, water buffalo and Timor deer. What an incredible way to see such a uniquely beautiful part of the world, the boat was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The camps were wonderfully well set up and our every need was catered for, Mathias was a fantastic tour leader and all the crew were all a joy to be with. The food was fresh and delicious, all in all an incredibly amazing experience we are recommending to everyone we know!

What types of kayaks are used on the tour?

Do you suggest that I fly in to Labuan Bago on the same morning that the tour begins being 29/7/24? Or do you suggest that I fly in the day before (28/7) if the tour will be beginning early in the morning?

    • No Roads ExpeditionsOperatorWritten February 2024

Domestic flights are not included in this trip. Nor are transfers in Labuan Bajo this is just the Kayak component of our 10-day trip. The kayaks are both single and double. They are Australian-built Komodo Kayaks where you can convert them from single to double. They are proper sit-in expedition-style kayaks. Hours spent kayaking depends on the day but we usually do between 4 and 6 hours maximum broken up by snorkelling and small hikes.

    • No Roads ExpeditionsOperatorWritten February 2024

You will need to fly to Labuan Bajo on the 30th as we have the kayak meeting at 9 am on the 31st and then we set out. There is no flight early enough to get you to Labuan Bajo from Bali. We usually put people up at the Puri Sari, but you can stay anywhere in Labuan Bajo you like.

Just wondering about fitness level and kms/hrs a day kayaking to do the 5 day Kayak Komodo trip?

    Tour Details
    • No Roads ExpeditionsOperatorWritten January 2024

The average kayaking distance is approx 10-12 km per day or about 3-4hrs Brocken up snorkelling stops and hikes. If you wish to do more there is plenty of time to do more in the afternoons when we get to an island. If you wish to do less we have a nice support boat where you can lounge on the sun deck ad watch the others kayak from.

      TravelerWritten January 2024

Thanks so much for your quick response Peter. Those distances sound very doable. Also wondering if there is a different option instead of the night sleeping on the boat? I can do short boat trips but motion sickness is a thing that restricts me when looking at things like sleeping on the boat. Just wanted to check before any further planning.

    • No Roads ExpeditionsOperatorWritten January 2024

Unfortunately, the night on the Support is within the park and we have no alternative. We are anchored in a very well-sheltered harbour so usually the sea is very calm. I do understand if you are super sensitive to movement (my sister has the same issue), but the harbour is very calm.
