Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Cologne

You'll arrive in Cologne with the morning and early afternoon ahead of you before the Rhine cruise departs at 5 PM. The city has quite a few monuments and historical sites worth checking out, so getting there early gives you a real chance to walk around at your own pace. The cathedral itself is right there in the center, and from there you can wander through the old town streets. Grab some lunch somewhere along the Rhine before heading to the ship.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack (Embarkation snack), Tea/Coffee (Daily tea and coffee time)

    Optional Activities

    • Explore Cologne's cathedral city and monuments
    • Discover attractions in Cologne's city centre
    Landmarks
    Cologne Cathedral
    Itinerary Image 1
  2. Day 2

    Rotterdam

Rotterdam's your stop at noon, and you've got until nearly midnight to see what this place is about. It's got this modern, urban feel that's pretty different from a lot of European cities, with contemporary architecture showing up everywhere. The port is massive, so if that interests you, it's worth a look. Wandering the neighborhoods with architect-designed buildings gives you a sense of how the city rebuilt itself after World War II. There are good cafes and restaurants scattered around for lunch and dinner.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee (Daily tea and coffee time)

    Included Activities

    • Use free e-bikes for independent exploration of Rotterdam, subject to availability

    Optional Activities

    • Explore Rotterdam's architect-designed houses and city centre
    • Visit the maritime port and observe cruise ships
    • Discover Rotterdam's modern architecture and attractions

  3. Day 3

    Amsterdam

You'll land in Amsterdam at 09:00 and have the full day to explore until your 21:00 departure. The city's got nearly 7,500 listed buildings scattered throughout, so historical sites are everywhere you turn. Walk along the canals, check out the museums, or just wander the neighborhoods. If the local authorities don't confirm berths, you'll get a shuttle bus to the city instead. Budget your time so you can grab lunch somewhere along the water and maybe catch the city at golden hour before heading back.

    Meals
Breakfast (Comprehensive breakfast buffet with live-cooking stations), Lunch (Comprehensive lunch buffet with live-cooking stations), Dinner (Comprehensive dinner buffet with live-cooking stations)

    Included Activities

    • Free use of e-bikes for independent exploration (subject to availability)

    Optional Activities

    • Explore Amsterdam city centre
    • Visit historical monuments and buildings
    • Canal exploration and sightseeing
    Landmarks
    Amsterdam City Centre
  4. Day 4

    Utrecht

The ship pulls into Utrecht at 01:00, which is early, but the city's the fourth largest in the Netherlands and worth getting up for. Head to Utrecht Cathedral once the sun comes up and climb to the top for views across the whole city. The canal-lined streets have plenty of small cafés where you can sit with coffee and watch the local life happen. The city center's compact and easy to navigate, so you won't waste time figuring out where to go.

  5. Day 5

    Utrecht

Your last morning in Utrecht before the 03:00 departure. Since you're leaving early, you might want to catch the sunrise over the canals or grab breakfast at one of those street-side cafés before heading back to the ship. Utrecht Cathedral is still there if you didn't make it yesterday, and the walk through the old city center takes maybe an hour or two. After that, head back with time to spare before departure.

    Meals
Breakfast (Comprehensive breakfast buffet with live-cooking stations), Lunch (Comprehensive lunch buffet with live-cooking stations), Dinner (Comprehensive dinner buffet with live-cooking stations)

  6. Day 6

    Cologne

The cruise begins in Cologne when you arrive at 06:00. This is where your Rhine journey starts, and the city's packed with monuments and historical spots centered around the famous cathedral. You can spend the morning exploring before the cruise officially kicks off, or if you've been to Cologne before, use the time to relax on the ship and prepare for what's coming next along the Rhine.

The A-Rosa Sena is a great river cruiser, modern, spacious and comfortable. Likes : All the staff are fantastic although I did find them to be misinformed at times. The food is great and I loved the buffet styled meals. Loved the 3 destinations, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Utrecht and gives you a great taster if its worth visiting the cities. There was always some sort of evening entertainment. I really like that the review on the next day destination was in english and she really went out of her way to make sure we were well informed and had some sort of itinerary. Dislikes : COFFEE, coming from Australia we appreciate having a good quality coffee in the morning. The Coffee Machines that provides "speciality" coffee is only available when the bar opens at 11. I saw the exact same machines at all the hotels we stayed in Germany and available with your breakfast. Filtered / drip coffee was served at 7:30 and with breakfast and it was awful, I couldn't drink it, was far too strong. Staff advised this is a newly introduced policy as the coffee machines was available 24/7 on previous cruises. There was barista styled coffee available for a fee, we did not take advantage of this as it was expensive. There were so many complaints from passengers but kept being told that it was an instruction from the head office. Not sure why the ship management crew can't make a call to please their customers / passengers. WiFi is almost none existent. It was only really available in the bar and dining room. We were initially given 5 gig allocation and that seem to run out very quickly, then 3 gigs. Concidering we were off the the river cruiser during the day, we can't understand how we went through so much data and we had app and software updates turned off. Why limit the data? There were basic beers and a very average white and red wine available. For cocktails, spirits and barista style coffee was either extra or you could purchase a drinks package for an extra 19 Euros per day. It would have been great it some of the landmarks were called out as we cruised along the river, even if it is broadcasted in the general areas. Perhaps they can install a public announcements for the captain / First officer instead of them having to come down to the customer service area to provide updates. I just felt like there was continuous gouging, always something that we needed to pay extra for which really made it feel like we were on a budget cruise.

We were not aware when we booked the cruise that we would be the only two non-German-speaking people on the ship. Tour Radar should have emphasised this in its advertising. All the announcements were in German, as were the entertainment and activities. Luckily, Stephanie, a senior crew member with impeccable English language skills took excellent care of us from the moment we came on board until we left. Most of the bar and kitchen staff also seemed to speak English which was also a help. The trip got off to a poor start with the passengers having to be bused from Cologne - where we were supposed to begin the cruise - to Nijmegen in Holland. We were told this was because of the ship having developed engine difficulties which upset the schedule. We were only informed of this when we arrived at the Cologne pick-up point to begin the cruise. The bus journey took over 3 hours, partly because the Czech bus driver kept getting lost. We had endured a long bus ride and missed a large stretch of the River Rhine which we had greatly been looking forward to. When we returned to Cologne along this stretch it was during the night so there was no opportunity to reclaim the lost experience. As far as I am aware, there was no offer of compensation made to the passengers regarding this significant loss. Certainly, we did not receive any such offer. To end on a positive note. The cabin was lovely and the food was varied and tasty throughout the cruise. All the staff on the ship were friendly and efficient as well. In particular, Stephanie's kindness and helpfulness was a true highlight that we will always remember.
