Itinerary
- Day 1
Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine National Park
You'll arrive at Torres del Paine National Park and connect with your guide for the journey ahead. After a 2.5-hour bus ride from Puerto Natales (about 112 km), you'll start trekking right away. The hike to Camping Seron takes around 4 hours, so it's a solid introduction to the terrain. You'll be settling in under the stars for your first night, so pack layers since it can get chilly in Patagonia.

Dickson Sector Trek
This is a serious trekking day with plenty of climbing and descending around Cerro Paine's slopes, then you'll walk along Lake Paine's edge. If the weather cooperates (and that's a big if down here), you can see the northeast summit of the Paine Massif with its distinctive rock formations like Cabeza del Indio and Escudo. By evening you'll reach Dickson Sector campsite, which sits right next to a glacial lake. It's a long day but the views make it worthwhile.

Dickson to Los Perros Sector
You're heading southwest toward Los Perros, starting by passing the Dickson Glacier as it tumbles into its lake. Then you'll walk through lenga forest where you might catch sight of Magellanic woodpeckers if you're lucky. After crossing a clearing with glacier views in both directions, you'll pass Los Perros Glacier before arriving at Camp Los Perros. The campsite sits in an old forest that feels quiet and remote, so it's a nice contrast to the exposed ridges you've been on.

Los Perros to Sector Grey
This one's the toughest but most dramatic. You'll start early from Los Perros and immediately deal with swampy ground, then the trail gets steep fast as you climb toward Paso John Garner. Once you reach that windy pass, the views of the Southern Ice Field will stop you in your tracks. From there you descend and follow Grey Glacier all the way to Lake Gray. You'll cross two suspension bridges spanning 50 meters each with glacier views surrounding you, then finish at Sector Grey refugio. Bring energy and patience for this day.

Sector Grey to French Sector via Paine Grande
You're walking through forests of ñirres, cohigues, and notros trees with Cerro Paine Grande (3,050 m) and its hanging glaciers visible on your left. Around lunchtime you'll stop at Paine Grande Refuge with views of Cuernos del Paine. After eating, you continue toward the French Sector with Lake Pehoé running along your right and another side of Cerro Paine Grande appearing on your left. It's a long forest walk but the mountain views keep things interesting.

Valle del Francés Day Hike
Valle del Francés is one of the park's standout spots, and you'll see why today. The walk toward Italian Camp starts gently, then you'll climb for about 1.5 hours to the French Lookout. From there you can see hanging glaciers on Cerro Paine Grande, and if conditions align, you might witness an ice fall. You'll continue through lenga forest into the British sector where massive granite walls surround you. Then you head back the same way, so it's a full day but there's no new terrain to figure out on the return.

French Sector to Central Sector
Today's easier with shorter distances and gentler terrain. You'll walk with Cuernos del Paine on your left and colorful Lake Nordenskjöld on your right as you head toward Central Sector. Mount Almirante Nieto (2,670 m) sits near the route if conditions permit viewing it. By evening you're at Central Sector, which feels more populated since other hikers gather there. It's a good day to let your legs recover before the final push.

Mirador Base Torres and Return to Puerto Natales
Set your alarm early because Mirador Base Torres is the park's most famous viewpoint and you want good light. You'll walk through pampas, cross Ascencio River, then climb about 3 km to a windy pass with incredible views. After pushing through lenga forest past La Morrena, you face a tough 45-minute scramble up rocky terrain to reach the Mirador Base Torres viewpoint at 2,850 m. The three towers rise above you at different heights, and this is the image people remember. You return to Central Sector and catch a 7:00 PM bus back to Puerto Natales, ending your trek.
