Itinerary
- Day 1
Moshi
You'll arrive in Moshi and get settled in for the beginning of your Mount Kilimanjaro climb. This is your chance to rest up, meet your guides, and go over the details of what's ahead. Most people spend this time getting acclimated to the local time and making sure all your gear is organized. Meals and accommodation are included, and your guide will brief you on the trek's physical demands and what to expect from the altitude.

Moshi to Machame Camp
Early morning departure from Moshi takes you to the Machame Gate, where your trek officially begins. The hike to Machame Camp covers about 5.7 miles through lush rainforest terrain, and you'll be gaining elevation gradually. Your guide provides meals throughout the day, starting with breakfast before you head out and finishing with dinner once you're settled at camp. The walk takes around 4 to 5 hours, giving your body time to adjust to the increased altitude around 9,400 feet/2,865 meters.

Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp
From Machame Camp, you'll trek to Shira 2 Camp, which means another day of steady climbing through changing landscapes as the forest gradually becomes more sparse. This segment covers roughly 3.7 miles and takes about 4 to 5 hours of walking time. Meals are provided at camp and along the way, so you'll have fuel for the climb. By the time you reach Shira 2 at around 12,992 feet/3,962 meters, the terrain shifts to more open moorland with volcanic rock formations becoming visible.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
The journey from Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp involves hiking roughly 5 miles across high-altitude terrain with volcanic sand and rock underfoot. You'll spend about 5 to 7 hours on the trail, moving through an area known as the Lava Tower at 15,190 feet/4,630 meters before descending to Barranco Camp. This descent actually helps with acclimatization by taking you to a lower elevation (13,044 feet/3,976 meters), which allows your body to rest. Guides prepare three meals daily at camp to support your continued adjustment to thinner air.

- Day 5
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
You'll trek from Barranco Camp up to Barafu Camp, which marks the final camp before your summit attempt. The hike covers about 4.3 miles and typically takes 4 to 6 hours, with the terrain becoming increasingly rocky and sparse as you climb to 15,331 feet/4,673 meters. This camp sits at a higher elevation than Barranco, allowing your body one more night to acclimate before the challenging push to the peak. Your guide ensures you have meals and rest time to prepare mentally and physically for what comes next.

Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp
Before dawn, you'll start the summit push from Barafu Camp toward Uhuru Peak at 19,341 feet/5,895 meters, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. The ascent takes roughly 5 to 8 hours depending on your pace and acclimatization, moving across volcanic scree on a steep, challenging route. After reaching the summit and taking time to absorb the moment, you'll descend down to Mweka Camp (10,059 feet/3,068 meters) the same day. This full day involves significant exertion but also represents the culmination of your entire climb.

Mweka Camp to Moshi
Your final trek takes you from Mweka Camp back down to Moshi through rainforest, covering about 6 miles in roughly 3 to 4 hours of walking. This descent is physically less demanding than previous days, and by late morning or early afternoon you'll reach the gate. Your guide presents you with your official climbing certificate as recognition of completing this challenging trek. From there, transportation returns you to your accommodation in Moshi to clean up and rest.

Moshi
Spend today recovering and resting in Moshi after finishing your Kilimanjaro climb. Your body needs time to recuperate from the physical demands of the past week, so take it easy with meals and relaxation at your hotel. Many climbers use this day to do laundry, sort through photos, reflect on the experience, and prepare for departure. Guides are available if you have questions or want to exchange contact information, and this gives you a chance to enjoy the town without the pressure of hiking.
