After that, head to Cologne to see the Gothic Cathedral and walk around the lively center and riverfront before checking into your hotel in Dortmund.

You're traveling the Fairy Tale Route visiting towns connected to Brothers Grimm stories. The day takes you to Trendelburg's Rapunzel Tower, through forests that feel like Hansel and Gretel, then to Corvey Abbey from the 9th century and Polle's castle ruins. Later you'll reach Hamelin, known for the Pied Piper legend, and finish in Hanover with time to check out the old town area.

Goslar - Eisenach
After breakfast, you'll visit Rammelsberg Mines, a UNESCO site where they mined silver, including the museum there. Then walk through Goslar's medieval old town, also UNESCO-listed, with its half-timbered buildings and St. Peter's Church. You'll have lunch in Göttingen and time to walk around, then continue to the spa town of Bad Sooden before reaching Eisenach for dinner.

Erfurt - Leipzig
The morning starts at Wartburg Castle where Martin Luther did his Bible translation, with views out over the landscape. You'll return to Eisenach for lunch and free time, with options to see the Bach House or Automobile Museum if interested. Later, head to Gotha to see its Baroque palace, then finish in Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, where you can see the cathedral and old town including a bridge that's had people living on it for centuries. You'll arrive in Leipzig by late afternoon.

- Day 6
Dresden - Meissen - Berlin
Leaving Leipzig, you'll see the 91-meter Monument to the Battle of the Nations from the Napoleonic era. Then it's on to Dresden, Saxony's capital, known for its Baroque and Renaissance architecture along with walks by the Elbe River. You'll stop in Meissen for lunch and explore the old town, its castle and cathedral, plus the famous porcelain works there since the 1700s. Before reaching Berlin around 7:00 p.m., you'll visit Moritzburg, an island castle with impressive architecture and grounds.

You'll also visit the Holocaust Memorial and Berlin Wall Memorial Museum, both important sites from the country's 20th-century history. The afternoon is free to explore on your own, then you'll head to the lively Kantstrasse area in the early evening.
