- PCPaula· July 10th, 2024The scenery was spectacular, our guide and fellow tourists were great. However, the trip itself was grueling, in large part because the bus was cramped and getting in and out was difficult. The small bus held a max of 20. Two of the seats were over the rear wheels, making them pretty much impossible to use. There were 17 of us, so we had no room to spread out. The seats were narrow with little leg room. There is more room in economy class on a plane. The roads were for the most part fairly smooth, but any bump was bone-jarring in the back of the bus. There were small overhead storage shelves, but not enough for all our day bags, so I had to squeeze my bag by my feet. The seatbelts were very difficult to fasten in such tight quarters. I think most of us gave up. The door to the bus was narrow, with a big first step and a very narrow second step. To get a good footing, my foot had to be sideways on this step. We spent probably five hours or more on the bus each day, getting on and off multiple times, which compounded the difficulties. Fortunately, I brought an inflatable seat cushion, which literally saved my butt! Our luggage was towed in a trailer, which lost its back panel on a rough road under construction. Fortunately, someone noticed before any of the luggage fell out. Ours was the only bus with a trailer, which leads me to believe the other tour buses had more room for passengers and tourists. On the day of the optional glacier hike, I thought there would be other alternatives for the rest of us who did not go. However, we spent around five hours at an isolated visitor center/cafeteria with some hiking trails waiting for the few who went on the glacier hike to return. My husband and I are in our 70s, and I asked Tour Radar how strenuous this tour would be. The reply was "easy." It was not. We could choose not to fully participate in some of the activities, e.g., climbing to the top of a waterfall. But we had no choice regarding the challenges of our transportation. I don't know how I can assure myself that the same will not happen again if I book another tour. On a different note--I have a suggestion regarding the itinerary. I could not necessarily tell from the written description what special gear I might need on any given day. When we stopped to see the waterfall with a path behind it, our guide warned us we would be wet if we went there. I could also see that path was on a slope. Our waterproof slickers and hiking boots were in our luggage wedged in the trailer, so for safety’s sake, we did not go behind the falls. I suggest that guides tell tourists what they might need the night before so we can be better prepared.Show moreG Adventures commented on this reviewDear Paula, Many thanks for your honest review.
