Itinerary
- Day 1
Gothenburg
You'll arrive at Gothenburg airport and pick up your rental car, then head into Sweden's second largest city for the day. Walking along Avenyn boulevard gives you a good sense of the place, with those characteristic old trams running through and the Scandinavian architecture all around. After checking into your hotel, you'll have the evening to settle in and get your bearings.

Gothenburg to Klädesholmen
From Gothenburg, you'll drive out to the west coast archipelago. The island of Marstrand is your first stop, where Carlsten Fortress sits with panoramic views across the water. After that, you'll head through the Tjörn archipelago and make your way to Klödesholmen, a small island known for herring. There's a herring museum to check out before you settle in for the night on the island.

Klädesholmen to Lysekil
This morning you'll take a ferry over to Åstol for a walk around the island and along the coast. From there, you'll continue north through Orust and reach Fiskebäckskil, which has colorful wooden houses and traditional fishing boats lined up at the quay. The whole area really captures that archipelago feel. By evening, you'll catch a ferry to Lysekil, so you'll arrive there as the day wraps up.

Lysekil
You'll spend the day around Lysekil exploring the coastal landscape. The red granite cliffs overlook the Gullmarsfjord where it meets deeper water. The nearby island of Skaftö has cobblestone roads through old fishing villages to wander through, and the forests there are covered in moss with high cliffs to the north. After checking out Stangehuvud Nature Reserve, you'll drive the scenic coastal road heading toward Fjällbacka.

You have free time in Fjällbacka to spend as you like. If Camilla Läckberg's detective novels interest you, there are guided tours that take you through locations from her stories. Otherwise, you can take a trip out to Välon island, which was actually used as a setting for one of her novels, so there's a literary connection either way.

Fjällbacka to Gothenburg
