Travel to Alexandria on the coast and explore its Greco-Roman heritage. Start with the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa, a multi-level site that blends Egyptian and Roman culture. After that, walk over to Pompey's Pillar, a 29-foot monument dating back to 297 AD. Next, head to the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 14th-century fortress sitting right on the harbor. If you're visiting on a weekday, finish at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to see its huge collection, though note the library closes on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can only photograph it from outside on those days.
