- Day 1
St. George to Coyote Gulch Trailhead
The journey starts with a 5-hour shuttle drive from St. George heading to the Coyote Gulch trailhead, which sits pretty remote out there. Once you arrive, you'll tackle a 5-mile hike that takes you downstream through an open wash. The wash gradually narrows and deepens into a real canyon with Navajo Sandstone walls towering around you, short waterfalls dropping down, and various pour-offs to navigate. By evening you'll set up camp in a cottonwood grove for the night.

From here the canyon opens up more with steeper hillsides and bigger waterfalls as the stream picks up volume. Once you reach the top, the views open up across the Escalante River and the whole canyon system.
