Buenos Aires to Tierra del Fuego
You'll depart Buenos Aires and head south across the Pampas, where gauchos work with cattle across wide open grasslands. The drive continues along Patagonia's Atlantic coast to Puerto Madryn, a historic Welsh settlement with a different feel from the capital. If interested, there are optional trips to marine sanctuaries where you might spot penguins, sea lions, sea elephants, and whales offshore. From there, you'll take a ferry across to Tierra del Fuego and arrive in Ushuaia, the southernmost town in the world, surrounded by the Beagle Channel and snow-capped peaks on the horizon.

Puerto Natales - Torres del Paine National Park
After crossing into Chile, you'll drive along the coast heading to Puerto Natales, which serves as your base for Torres del Paine National Park. The landscape here features huge granite cliffs and dramatic terrain throughout. You can explore via hiking, horseback riding, or take shorter day hikes depending on what appeals to you. An optional visit to Magdalena Island shows one of the world's largest Magellanic penguin colonies with more than 150,000 birds, and you'll likely see Austral dolphins and Toninas in the waters as well.

Los Glaciares National Park - El Chaltén - Futaleufu
You'll travel to Los Glaciares National Park and see Perito Moreno Glacier, which towers roughly 200 feet high and ranks among the world's largest glaciers. Heading north, you'll reach El Chaltén, Argentina's trekking hub, where optional day hikes include routes to Mount Fitz Roy base camp. Next, there's a stop at Hanging Glacier National Park for more glacier views. Later, you'll drive through Chile's Carretera Austral highway to Futaleufu, a spot known for river rafting on turquoise waters that attract serious paddlers.

Bariloche - Pucón - Santiago
You'll arrive in Bariloche, Argentina's main ski resort and vacation destination with solid hiking trails and evening entertainment options. From there, you travel to Pucón in Chile, an outdoor adventure center offering whitewater rafting, water sports, horseback riding, and day hikes up the nearby Villarrica Volcano. The route then winds through Chile's Lake District, passing through small villages and alongside deep blue lakes with mountains rising all around. Eventually you'll reach Santiago, the capital, where steakhouses and the Casillero del Diablo winery are popular stops.
