What our customers ask about this tour

Asked on April 10th, 2025What is the average age of people on this tour? Does this tour attract families, couples, singles or a mix?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written April 2025
On our Stray Select Tours, our average age is about late 20s-40s. However we do get people outside of this range too. Its definitely a mix of couples, friends & solos that travel on our Select Tours. Each tour seems to have a different amount of couples and solos! In particular, the 14th June departure is currently solo travellers.

Asked on March 18th, 2025I would like to know if the kaka tour leaving on April 26th is already confirmed?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written March 2025
I can confirm April 26th is scheduled to go ahead

Asked on January 27th, 2025What is does the single supplement cost as I do not want to share a room, thanks?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written January 2025
The single supplement cost guarantees you a private room. If you pay the regular cost, we will put you in a twinshare room with another solo traveller of the same gender.

Asked on January 3rd, 2025I am looking to book the 25th January tour. Before I do so can I ask the number currently booked and their age ranges? Reason I ask is because I am a solo traveller aged 62 (albeit very active and young minded).
- Stray TravelOperator•Written January 2025
There are currently 15 people booked on this tour. In terms of ages, we don't collect age as a required field from customers so we don't have everyones age ranges noted down to share. I can however confirm there are at least a few people in your age range that I know of as I've chatted with them.

Asked on December 3rd, 2024Do I qualify? I am a healthy, fit, energetic 74. Do I qualify? What time does the tour end on the 30th? Is a day-by-day itinerary available? Confirming that the rail travel and Milford Sound cruise is included? Up to how many people on the tour?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written December 2024
We actually don't have an age limit for any of our tours. Not sure why it says that on TourRadar. All ages with adventurous spirits are welcome! Your last included night on the tour is the 29th, so the 30th you will simply check out of the hotel around 10am as an end to your tour. Any flights can be made for that morning or afternoon, it is up to you! Correct! The tranzalpine train ride and Milford Sound boat cruise are included! So is the transportation to Milford from Queenstown. We have a maximum of 24 people, but this season have been averaging 10-15 people.

Bealey in Christchurch would be the recommendation as that is where they will be staying the night of the 14th for the tour.

Asked on December 17th, 2023Can I just get off, stay a while, and catch a later bus?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written December 2023
Unfortunately, the Kaka Tour doesn't allow you to hop off in a destination for staying longer, then hop on back to the next bus. Kaka Tour is the fixed itinerary Adventure Tour with hostel style accommodation included.

Traveler•Written August 2023Hi , we are certain we will be booking this tour . We have one concern for the train ride . Can we request for train seats that are facing the forward and not backward as both of us have vertigo and we will feel sick if we face backward on train rides .
- Stray TravelOperator•Written August 2023
We can definitely request this at the time of booking, though we cannot guarantee this as the booking is with a third-party operator, however most seats are forward-facing. On arrival at the station when you check-in and collect your tickets, please ask them about your seats and in the event you are facing backwards, they should be able to assist you.

Asked on September 24th, 2022Are these hotels and lodges 4 star (or more) with private facilities?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written September 2022
All our accommodation is 3-stars or more apart from specialist accommodation for example when we stay in Abel Tasman. Where possible all rooms will have ensuites but New Zealand isn't totally equipped with ensuites everywhere. If you like, you can upgrade to a private room so that you're not sharing with anyone else.
