- Day 1
Bergen
You'll arrive in Bergen by ferry at 12:30 pm (if coming from Hirtshals) and have the afternoon to explore this charming Hanseatic city. The historic Bryggen district is right there with its famous wooden buildings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site worth wandering through. If you're up for it, take the cable car up Mount Fløien to get views across the city, mountains, fjords, and sea. It's a nice way to get oriented after your journey.

- Day 2
Bergen to Egersund
Today you'll travel along Norway's coastal route, which is the real draw here. You'll pass through sea tunnels, cross suspension bridges, and take fjord ferries along the way. Stop in Haugesund, known as the home of the Vikings and where Norway was founded. Check out the Visnes Copper Mine, which actually supplied copper for the Statue of Liberty. From there you'll head to the island of Rennesy and Stavanger's old town, then continue along the dramatic granite dune coast down to Egersund. Plan for a full day of driving and sightseeing.

Egersund area
You'll explore Sogndalstrand, a restored fishing village on the North Sea with guest rooms and cafés in historic buildings where you can grab food or coffee. The natural attractions around here are worth seeing, like Jøssingfjord with its Helleren dwellings built right under overhanging cliffs. The narrow Lundevatnet strait is nearby, and Kvåsfossen waterfall drops 36 meters. If you want some activity, there are optional hikes in the hilly areas around Lyngdal, or you can explore the quieter Sklera area with its small lakes and views of Åptafjord. Pick what fits your energy level.

Egersund to Ryfylke
You'll journey through varied landscapes starting at Byrkjedalstunet in Dirdal to see local handicrafts. Travel through a tunnel to Frafjord for great views, then take the scenic Ryfylke ferry route from Lauvik to Oanes. The main event is Preikestolen, that famous rock plateau 800 meters above Lysefjord. You can hike up to it, which takes 3 to 5 hours depending on fitness, or explore the area from the parking area. After that, you'll cross Saudafjord by ferry to see the fjord from the water before reaching Sand. The hiking is optional but worthwhile if you're able.

Ryfylke to Ulvik
Follow the Ryfylke panoramic road across Sandfjord toward Rødal in the high mountains. Then you'll take the scenic route over Rødal Pass down to Hardangerfjord. You'll come across Låtefossen, a distinctive twin waterfall with two parallel 165-meter streams cascading side by side, which is worth stopping for. By evening you'll reach Hardangerfjord at Odda and continue along the panoramic road to Ulvik. There are optional stops at regional cider producers if you want to taste and pick up something local.

- Day 6
Ulvik to Lærdat
Drive from Ulvik up into the mountains toward Voss, then descend toward Flåm on the southern Sognefjord shore. This is a shorter day, so you'll have time to check out sights along the way. Consider the optional Voss Gondola ride to Hanguren mountain for views of the area. There's a detour option to Undredal village if you want to try their famous goat's cheese. Once you reach Flåm, visit the UNESCO-protected Nærøyfjord or take the optional Flåm Railway, which is famous for a reason. Don't skip Stegastein viewpoint. For your route to Lærdat, you can take the beautiful Aurlands National Tourist Route or go through the 25 km Lærdat Tunnel, which is the world's longest road tunnel.

Lærdat to Geiranger
Today you're heading to Geiranger on the coast of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You have two route options, so pick based on what appeals to you. Route 1 takes you on a ferry across Sognefjord with views of Jostedalsbreen glacier as you leave, then through mountainous roads past Loen and Stryn. There's an optional Skylift cable car on Mount Hoven, which is the world's steepest aerial tramway. Route 2 goes through Jotunheimen mountains, Norway's highest peaks and home of the giants. Both are scenic and reach Geiranger via Strynfjellet.

- Day 8
Geiranger
This is your leisure day in Geiranger. Relax and take it easy after yesterday's drive. If you want activity, there's an optional fjord cruise to experience the fjord landscape and see the Seven Sisters waterfall. Weather permitting, you can make an optional detour to Dalsnibba viewpoint for views across the fjord.

- Day 9
Geiranger to Kristiansund
Leave Geiranger on the beautiful Eagle Road winding up the mountain toward Norddalsfjord and Trollstigen, probably the most famous tourist road in the country. You'll navigate countless hairpin bends past waterfalls as you descend into Istra valley, with views of striking Romsdalshorn and Trollveggen escarpment. Reach Åndalsnes on the Isfjord, then continue to Kristiansund, which is famous for its klippfisk, salted and air-dried cod that's a local specialty. There's an optional klippfisk museum if you're interested.

- Day 10
Kristiansund to Fosnavåg
This is a long eventful day starting at Kristiansund. First, you'll drive the Atlantic Road with its 12 artfully curved bridges connecting the mainland to offshore islands, which is one of Europe's most exciting coastlines. It's calm when there's no wind or dramatic with strong winds depending on conditions. Pass through the fishing village of Bud on your way to Molde, a typical fjord town. Then ferry across Romdalsfjord to Ålesund where you can walk around and enjoy views from Aksla viewpoint. After that, another ferry across Sulafjord before continuing to Fosnavåg. It's a full day of transitions and scenery.

Fosnavåg
After yesterday's long drive, today is for relaxation. Take a leisurely walk through Fosnavåg and just let yourself be. If you want to do something, consider an optional trip to Runde island, a hotspot for bird watching with puffins being the main attraction. It's long been popular with nature photographers and ornithologists. Alternatively, you can drive to Vestkapp, the westernmost point of Norwegian mainland about 2.5 hours away, which has worthwhile rugged west coast scenery.

Fosnavåg to Kalvåg
Travel along the coast via Ulsteinvik and Måløy to Knutholmen on the island of Frøya. There's an optional detour at Måløy to see Kannestein rock, an impressive natural formation jutting from the sea like a whale's fin. You'll pass several fishing villages worth a quick stop. After crossing Nordfjord, you'll reach Knutholmen in Kalvåg. The entire former fishing village has been converted into a cozy hotel village with good food, art, and local tradition, possibly the coziest place you'll encounter.

Kalvåg to Sognefjord
Journey from Knutholmen following the southern shore of Nordfjord, then through an unusual granite rock landscape called Svelgen. Follow the coast to Lavik where the Sognefjord, the king of the fjords, meets the sea in a wide and imposing way, quite different from its narrow, winding character you saw earlier in Flåm and Lærdat. Ferry across to Brekkestranda.

- Day 14
Sognefjord to Bergen
Head back toward Bergen today. The journey isn't too long, so you'll have plenty of time to explore the city if you haven't already. Make sure to visit Bryggen if you didn't see it on day one. It's Bergen's most important historical sight with about 60 wooden houses and UNESCO World Heritage status. Check out the fish market while you're there, it's worth a walk through.

Depart Bergen
Depart Bergen today. If you booked the ferry, you'll leave at 1:30 pm on the Fjord Line ferry with arrival in Hirtshals the next morning at 8 am.
