10 Day Norway Itinerary, incl. Oslo and Bergen
Norwegian landscapes unfold across 1,093 miles visiting 15 destinations. The route includes Oslo's Frogner Park, Bergen's UNESCO-listed Bryggen, cruises on Nærøyfjord and Geirangerfjord, plus stays at distinctive hotels like Alexandra in Loen.
- Days 1-2
Oslo
Begin your Norway adventure in the capital. Visit the striking Frogner Park early in the morning before crowds arrive. Its 200+ sculptures by Gustav Vigeland look their best at dawn. See Oslo's City Hall where they hold the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Book your accommodation near Karl Johans Gate in central Oslo. You'll be able to walk to most major sites.
- Day 3
Oslo to Telemark
- Day 4
Telemark to Bergen
Take the ferry across Hardangerfjord (45 minutes) lined with orchards. Stop at a local fruit farm in Norway's "fruit bowl." A visitor shared: "The home-made apple juice and cider tasting with lunch amid breathtaking views was a highlight." You'll reach Bergen by early evening to see the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf.
- Days 5-6
Bergen & Norwegian Fjords
Start your morning at Bergen's fish market and take the funicular up Mount Fløyen. Take a scenic cruise through Nærøyfjord, a narrow arm of Sognefjord. One traveler said: "Watching the waterfalls cascade down sheer cliffs while tiny farms cling to the mountainsides was unforgettable." Stop at the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Fjærland.
- Days 7-8
Loen & Geirangerfjord
- Days 9-10
Lillehammer to Oslo
- Day 1
Harstad
- Days 2-3
Andenes & Whale Watching
Set out early for the 4-hour drive from Harstad to Andenes to catch beautiful morning light on the mountains. Book your whale safari for early afternoon when the seas are usually calmer. The deep-water trench near the coast means you have a 95% chance of seeing whales. Pack motion sickness medicine and plenty of warm, waterproof clothes since the Arctic wind can be intense on the water.
- Day 4
Andøya Island
Take your time exploring the Norwegian Scenic Route on Andøya. The 58km stretch from Bjørnskinn to Andenes offers stunning views. Stop at the fishing village of Bleik with its striking white sand beach. One traveler shared: "The beach at Bleik was completely empty when we visited. Walking there at midnight under the summer sun was otherworldly."
- Days 5-6
Reine & Southern Lofoten
Take the Melbu-Fiskebøl ferry to Lofoten. The ferry runs every 30 minutes and doesn't need advance booking. While the drive to Reine is about 4 hours, plan extra time for photo stops. Stay in a traditional fisherman's cabin (rorbu) in Reine. These red cabins on stilts over the water offer an authentic local experience.
- Days 7-8
Svolvær
Drive north to Svolvær, the main town in Lofoten. Visit the Lofotr Viking Museum on the way but arrive before 10 AM to avoid crowds. Try kayaking in Svolvær's protected waters which are great for beginners. The Lofoten War Museum needs about 90 minutes and gives interesting insights into WWII history.
- Days 9-10
Return to Harstad
The return drive to Harstad takes about 4 hours. From September to March, watch for northern lights and stop at viewing points if conditions are good. Return your rental car at least 2 hours before your flight since peak season can mean slow return processes.
9 Days in Northern Norway, incl. Oslo and Tromsø
Northern Norwegian treasures span 5 major destinations: Oslo, Trondheim, Bodø, Lofoten Islands, and Tromsø. Notable stops include Nidaros Cathedral visits, Trollfjord cruises, Linken Peak hikes, and e-bike tours, with comfortable stays in harbor-front cabins and city hotels.
- Day 1
Oslo
Start exploring Norway's capital with a walk through the Aker Brygge district by the harbor. Visit the Viking Ship Museum before its 4 PM closing time (NOK 100). A recent visitor shared: "Watching the sunset over Oslo Fjord from Holmenkollen was magical, but bring an extra layer – the hilltop gets chilly even in summer."
- Days 2-3
Trondheim
Take the morning train from Oslo to Trondheim (6.5 hours). You'll have two days to explore Norway's original capital city. Start early at the massive Nidaros Cathedral to beat the crowds that form by 10 AM. Take time to hike in the Bymarka nature reserve near Lianvatnet lake but pack good hiking shoes since trails can get muddy. Check out Norwegian music history at the Rockheim Museum (NOK 140).
- Days 4-6
Lofoten Islands
Fly to Bodø (1.5 hours) and catch the afternoon ferry to Svolvær (3.5 hours). Book a traditional fisherman's cabin called a rorbu right on the water. Take a RIB boat through Trollfjord to look for sea eagles and hike up to Linken Peak. The 2-hour trail is steep but most people can handle it. One TourRadar reviewer noted: "The Lofoten Islands were the highlight. Watching white-tailed eagles soar over the crystal clear fjords was unforgettable."
- Days 7-9
Tromsø
Take the coastal ferry to Tromsø (full day). Rent an e-bike to explore the city and stop at the Polar Museum to learn about Arctic exploration. Stop for a drink at Ølhallen, the historic pub from 1877. Take the cable car up Fjellheisen mountain for great views (NOK 210). The city center is easy to walk around but quite hilly so wear good shoes.

- Scandinavia (Winter)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Em was an absolutely incredible tour guide on our Contiki Scandinavia trip! She was exceptionally well prepared and organised, making the whole experience feel effortless (although I know so much hard work must have been needed behind the scenes). Her deep knowledge of each destination added so much to the journey, turning every stop into a rich and immersive experience. Thanks to her, I didn’t have to stress about a thin, just show up, be present and enjoy the adventure. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide! Thank you so much Em, you truly made this experience a once in a lifetime trip ??
