Itinerary
- Day 1
Cairo
You're arriving in Cairo, and if you get there early, there's time to walk through the famous bazaars, check out Dr Ragab's Pharaonic Village, or grab a sahlab drink to cool off. The official welcome meeting starts at 6 pm, followed by dinner with your group where you'll try koshari, a vegetarian Egyptian dish. After that, you're free to explore Cairo's nightlife and get to know the other travelers.

- Day 2
Cairo
After breakfast, you'll head to the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. You'll have time to walk around, get close-up views, and take photos with Cairo in the background. The afternoon is yours to visit the Egyptian Museum, see the Valley Temple of King Khafre, or do your own thing. Later, you'll board an overnight sleeper train headed to Aswan.

- Day 3
Aswan
Your leader takes you through the bazaar in the morning, showing you the oil and perfume merchants and sharing Egypt's aromatic traditions. In the afternoon, you'll paddle a kayak along the Nile and see the historic waters from the water. Later, there's an option to visit a Nubian village for dinner with a local family if you're interested.

- Day 4
Aswan
The morning in Aswan is relaxed and yours to use as you like. There's an optional very early trip to Abu Simbel, the historic temple carved into a rock cliff built for Pharaoh Ramses II. Renting a minivan with other travelers is the cheapest way to go, about 3 hours each way, and you'll want at least 2 hours at the site. The evening is free for dinner and drinks around town.

Nile River
Spend the morning relaxing in Aswan to recharge. Late afternoon, you'll board a traditional felucca, a sailing boat that feels like a floating tent, for an overnight journey on the Nile. You can read, play cards, or join a beach party under the stars if the group's up for it. You'll drift to sleep with the gentle motion of the boat and constellations above.

Nile to Luxor
After disembarking the felucca this morning, you'll head to a hotel for a freshwater shower. On the way to Luxor, you can optionally stop at the Temple of Edfu to learn about the Hellenistic period. Once in Luxor, you'll wander this open-air museum at your own pace. Karnak Temple is a great first stop to understand life over 3,000 years ago. Tonight, try local dishes like fiteer baladi or shawarma.

West Bank
You'll travel to the West Bank this morning and explore three burial tombs in the Valley of the Kings, including an optional visit to Tutankhamun's tomb. Next, you'll see the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. There's also a stop at ACE, an Intrepid Foundation partner providing free veterinary care for working animals. If you have energy left, you can optionally visit Hatshepsut's tomb or Luxor Temple before boarding an overnight train to Cairo.

Cairo
You'll arrive in Cairo this morning and head to your hotel to drop your bags and freshen up. Then you'll jump on the Metro with your leader to Bab al-Futuh, one of three remaining gates from the Old City. After walking past ancient Islamic monuments, you'll haggle at Khan Al-Khalili bazaar, then relax at El Fishawy, a 240-year-old cafe for tea or cold water with mint. The evening is yours for a farewell dinner or nightlife with your group.

Cairo to Amman
You're flying to Amman, Jordan's capital, and have free time until the group meeting at 6 pm. Head to Rainbow Street for falafel and shisha like the locals do. If you prefer cultural activities, visit the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, get photos from the Temple of Hercules, or try a hammam. Your leader will know the best bars on Rainbow Street after the meeting.

- Day 10
Amman - Wadi Rum
Start this morning with a guided walk through Amman's central areas, taking in the hilltop Citadel and the Roman Theatre. You'll have time to browse local nut shops and wander through the souqs if you're interested. After that, head to the Royal Automobile Museum to see King Husseini's private vehicle collection. Once you've grabbed lunch, the drive to Wadi Rum takes a few hours. When you arrive, your Bedouin hosts will greet you with mint tea and show you around. Dinner happens in the evening at the camp, and then you'll settle in for the night in traditional Bedouin-style tents. Sleeping under the stars here is something special, with minimal light pollution making the night sky really clear.

- Day 11
Wadi Rum
You'll wake early to catch the sunrise over Wadi Rum's dramatic landscape. Then you're off in a 4WD jeep across the desert terrain, driving past Lawrence Spring with its freshwater spring and views. You'll stop at Lawrence House, supposedly where Lawrence of Arabia lived, then continue to one of the largest sand dunes and explore famous rock bridges. The landscape looks like it's from Hollywood films. You'll return to camp in the afternoon for a second night with your Bedouin hosts.

Wadi Rum to Petra
You're leaving Wadi Rum and heading to Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. You have two full days here, so take your time. A guided tour will cover thousands of years of history and filming locations. You'll walk through the narrow siq, a crack in the mountain, to reach Petra's tombs, temples, and rock-hewn amphitheatre. Ask your leader about hiking trails for different views of the 'rose-red city.' The cave bar is great for relaxing after exploring.

Petra
Another day at Petra on your own schedule. Walk the road to Al Khanzneh, the Treasury, one of the most impressive structures. If you skipped it yesterday, climb the stairs to El Dier, the Monastery, for great views from above. You could also hike to the royal tombs or visit the Byzantine mosaics. Your leader can recommend activities based on what interests you most.

Petra to Madaba
After breakfast, you'll drive down the King's Highway toward Madaba, stopping at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. You can swim or float in the salty water, and the mud has healing properties if you're sore from Petra. Then you'll head to Mt Nebo to view the Promised Land like Moses did. In Madaba, the 'city of mosaics,' your leader will give an orientation walk. Visit St Georges Church to see the intricate mosaic map of the Holy Land. The evening is free for local restaurants.
