Itinerary
- Day 1
Fes
Your guide meets you at Bab Boujeloud gate for a half-day walk through Fes's medinas. You'll head into Talâa Kebira to see the Spanish and Tunisian architectural influences throughout the narrow streets. The Chouara Tannery comes next, where you can watch workers use traditional dyeing methods in the large stone vats. After that, you'll check out the intricate tilework at the 14th-century Al Attarine Madrasa. If the schedule allows, you'll walk through the old Jewish quarter in Fes el Jdid, and possibly catch the French colonial architecture in Ville Nouvelle before heading back.

- Day 2
Fes to Chefchaouen
You leave Fes and stop at the Merenid tombs for views looking back over the city. There's an optional pause in Meknes if you want to walk the smaller medina there. Then you'll drive to Volubilis, a UNESCO site where you can see the Roman ruins, including preserved temples, merchant homes, and colorful mosaics scattered across the hillside. As you continue driving, the landscape shifts from flat plains into the mountainous Rif range. By afternoon, you arrive in Chefchaouen and walk through Plaza Outa el-Hammam, climb toward the city walls, head to the Hotel Atlas rooftop for views, and finish the day watching the sunset from the Spanish Mosque.

- Day 3
Chefchaouen to Fes
Early morning means quieter streets to wander through Chefchaouen before the crowds arrive. You'll climb the small hill to the Merenid Tombs for a full view of the blue city below. The 3.5-hour drive back to Fes begins after that. Once you reach Fes, you'll explore the UNESCO-protected medina and return to your traditional riad, settling back in after several days of travel.

Fes to Merzouga
This is a long travel day starting early. You'll cross the Middle Atlas through cedar forests, keeping an eye out for Barbary macaque monkeys in the trees. Azrou is your first real stop, then you climb the Col du Zad pass. Lunch happens in Midelt, known as the 'Apple City'. From there, you continue over Tizi-n-Talremt pass into the Ziz Valley where you'll see fortified ksars. Erfoud, a busy market town, is next, and you stop at a local artisan collective to learn about fossil mining. By late afternoon, you reach Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga for a sunset camel trek. The evening brings traditional Berber music and dinner at camp.

Merzouga to Tinerhir
You have morning options in the Sahara: sandboarding, an Erg Shibi tour, quad ATV rides, or just relaxing by the pool if you're interested. Early risers can catch the sunrise. Later, you'll head to Khamleya, a traditional Saharan village, for drumming, dancing, and to see how crops grow in the sand. Leaving Merzouga, you stop in Rissani market town to walk through the traditional markets and see livestock trading. By afternoon, you drive to Tinerhir to see the river oasis and explore Todra Gorge, a 984-foot-deep ravine carved by the Todra River into the landscape.

- Day 6
Tinerhir to Aït Benhaddou
Early wake-up gets you a Saharan sunrise, then you choose your morning activity: sandboarding, an Erg Shibi tour, or quad ATV rides. Afterward, you head south to Khemliya, a traditional Saharan village. You'll stop in Rissani at Maison Tuareg to browse traditional carpets, jewelry, and leather goods. Through acacia forests toward Alnif, where lunch breaks the drive. Continuing south through the Draa Valley with date palmeries, you can stop to pick up fresh dates. Late in the day, you reach Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed kasbah from the historic trans-Saharan trade route. After the day crowds leave, you explore the empty alleys and climb rooftop kasbahs for surrounding views.

- Day 7
Aït Benhaddou to Marrakech
You head over the High Atlas mountains with Mount Toubkal, the highest peak, visible in the distance. The road snakes down the mountainside with views across the ranges. A stop in Taddert takes you to an Argan Oil Cooperative where you'll learn how olives are processed. The north-facing slopes bring dramatic landscape shifts with river valleys carved into hillsides. By evening, you arrive in Marrakech, and as darkness falls, Jemaa el Fna Square starts filling with musicians, performers, snake charmers, and games. You can watch from surrounding cafes with dinner, taking in the energy.

- Day 8
Marrakech
Your final day explores Marrakech, known for its 1000-year-old red sandstone walls and buildings. Jemaa el-Fna Square serves as your reference point, with souks to the north, Koutoubia Mosque and Gardens to the west, and kasbah areas (including Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and El Badi Palace) to the south. You can tour the medina by calèche (horse-drawn carriage), see historic fondouks (medieval inns), rest in the Koutoubia Gardens, and visit Majorelle Gardens in Ville Nouvelle. Returning to Jemaa el-Fna as evening comes, you watch musicians, storytellers, acrobats, dancers, and snake charmers. Food comes from stalls or cafes overlooking the square.
