Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Antananarivo

    You'll be met at Ivato International Airport and driven to your hotel. The journey covers about 25 km and typically takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions. If there's time available, your guide will give you a briefing about what's coming up on the trip.

  2. Day 2

    Antananarivo to Antsirabe

    After breakfast, you'll head out toward Antsirabe with a stop at an aluminum foundry in Ambatolampy where workers make pots, dishes, and other items. The drive takes about 2.5 hours to reach Antsirabe, which locals call the 'city of water' because of its thermal springs.

  3. Day 3

    Antsirabe to Miandrivazo

    Following breakfast, you'll take a rickshaw to a workshop where artisans turn zebu horns into decorative pieces. From there, you'll drive on toward Miandrivazo, the starting point for your river journey, passing through villages where gold miners live and work along the way.

  4. Day 4

    Tsiribihina River Cruise

    Early morning brings you to the landing stage where you'll board your canoe for the Tsiribihina River. Along the way, you'll see fishermen gathering lunch and kids playing along the banks. After several hours on the water, you'll set up camp on white sand right at the river's edge.

  5. Day 5

    Tsiribihina River Cruise Continues

    You'll eat breakfast and then continue floating down the river. Grey and white herons perch in the trees overhead as you move through the calm water. Further downstream, you'll come across a waterfall with crystal-clear pools at different levels that are perfect for swimming.

  6. Day 6

    Tsiribihina River to Bekopaka

    By noon you'll reach Belo at Tsiribihina, where your river portion ends. From there, you'll drive through red-soil landscapes and pass several villages before arriving late afternoon at Bekopaka, your base for visiting Bemaraha National Park.

  7. Day 7

    Tsingys of Bemaraha

    Today focuses on the Tsingys of Bemaraha, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1990. These sharp limestone formations stick up 30 meters or more from the ground, creating a striking landscape filled with unusual plants and animals throughout the area.

  8. Day 8

    Bekopaka to Morondava

    After breakfast, you'll drive back toward Morondava, stopping at the Baobabs in Love and the famous Alley of Baobab on the way. Madagascar has six of the eight baobab species found anywhere in the world. You'll catch a nice sunset before entering Morondava.

    Morondava

    You'll take a canoe out to Betania peninsula to watch boat builders at work and visit a fishing community going about their day. The afternoon is yours to do as you like - relax on the beach or wander through the town on your own.

  10. Day 10

    Morondava to Antananarivo

    Depending on your flight time, you'll be picked up from the hotel and driven to Morondava Airport for your domestic flight back to Antananarivo. The flight itself takes 1 hour 30 minutes. Once you land, you'll be collected and taken to your hotel.

  11. Day 11

    Antananarivo

    You'll start with breakfast, then take a city tour looking at Antananarivo's older buildings and official structures from the upper areas. Next comes Ambohimanga, the historic birthplace of the Merina monarchy, where you'll learn about Madagascar's past before heading back to the hotel.

    Antananarivo Departure
