- KDKevin· July 25th, 2025Excellent adventure!Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewThanks for the review, Kevin. We love hearing your Baobabs & Beyond trip was an excellent adventure. Madagascar is such a unique place, and we hope we get to travel with you again sometime soon.Trip date: July 2025
- AHAdam· July 4th, 2025The tour with Intrepid was outstanding and Madagascar is a beautiful country. It is noted elsewhere that the car journeys are long due to the poor conditions of the roads so don't be surprised by that. Roads aside, the sights on the tour are like nowhere else on the planet. The tour itself was made by our tour guide Patrick, who deserves the highest praise from Intrepid - his ability to lead the tour and take the time to answer every question thrown at him was well appreciated. Lastly, the experience has encouraged us to return to the country again one day. Many thanks Patrick and Intrepid. Additional note - do not expect 5 star luxury on the trip, the trip is designed to get a more authentic experience of Madagascar culture.Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewThank you for taking the time to post a review and for sharing your experience with others. - KBKATHRYN· June 29th, 2025I was on the Baobabs and Beyond tour in Madagascar with my husband June 11-21. I agree with other reviewers that tours should be listed as 2 days shorter since the first day is only a late afternoon meeting and the last day just brings travelers back to the starting point. This trip was listed as requiring moderate fitness as a traveler and good for up to age 99. This is not a true depiction of what travelers encounter...having to squeeze through narrow openings in the tsingys on their stomachs, climb incredibly steep inclines, as well as having a constant concern about food safety. Of the 11 travelers on my trip, 2 men got violently sick requiring them to miss more than 2 days of activities. I witnessed two travelers vomit in front of me. For myself, I was super cautious, actually bringing much food from home (canned tuna, single-serve canned fruits, etc. Almost from day one I suffered extreme diahrrea...I did eat eggs at breakfast and very limited amounts of cooked vegetables, served to me in Madagascar on the tour. I was SICK. Immediately upon arrival in the States, I was diagnosed at the hospital with TWO severe types of E-COLI and severe GOUT resulting from the severe dehydration caused by the E-COLI. My husband and I are glad to have experienced Madagascar. However, while I understand that you are in business to make money and that Intrepid Tours are not billed as luxury honeymoon destinations, I adamantly believe that next to the rosy descriptions of the adventures travelers will encounter, you should mention precautions and warnings about the possible health risks and dangers lurking for potential travelers. It is incumbent upon your company to be upfront, honest and transparent. Otherwise, you lose credibilityShow moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewThank you for taking the time to share your review. - Anne· November 4th, 2024This trip was an amazing experience all round- our guide Salohi was really hardworking and made a huge affront to keep us all happy, great to have a female guide too. The highlights for me were the Tsingys, the Baobab Avenue and the night walk where we saw many chameleons and a mouse lemur. - CJColin· November 23rd, 2023Long days of driving on bad roads, from breakfast till sunset. Not much activity in 10 days, we done less than 6 hours of walking. Asked on June 13th, 2025Is this tour guaranteed? I need to know if I book, my plane ticket is safe. I travel alone and need a single room supplement. For Oct 8 to the 28th.
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written June 2025
Yes, this tour is guaranteed to depart—the minimum number of passengers required is just 1, and as of now, we already have 5 confirmed travellers booked. So there's absolutely nothing to worry about regarding your flights or the tour going ahead. Regarding the single room supplement, we'd be happy to check availability for that option once you've booked the trip.

Asked on June 13th, 2025Is vegan food available on this trip? For the camping nights, are single tents available? What is the toilet facilities like? Outside the tent?

Vegan Food: While travelling with us, you'll experience a wide variety of local cuisine. If you follow a vegan diet, please let your booking agent know in advance. Your group leader will do their best to accommodate dietary preferences wherever possible, though availability can vary in more remote areas. It's also a good idea to mention this again during your group meeting at the start of the trip. Meals during the trip include: Breakfasts: Tea/coffee, bread, jam, fruits, cereals. Lunches: Pasta/rice salads with veggies or sandwiches. Dinners: Veg soups, rice/pasta with sauce. Single tents may be available upon request and subject to availability. Toilet facilities while camping are typically basic and located outside the tents, often shared.
