You'll land in Iceland by mid-afternoon, then head out from the airport at 6 p.m. The drive to your guest farm takes about 2.5 to 3 hours along the south coast. There's an option to stop for dinner along the way if you want to grab something before settling in for the night.

Westman Islands
This morning you're taking a ferry out to the Westman Islands, a volcanic archipelago sitting off Iceland's south coast. Once there, you'll hike the crater rim of Heimaey, where you'll see lava-covered villages and puffin colonies if you're visiting before mid-July. The island's volcanic landscape and history make for a full day of walking and taking in the scenery.

South Coast to Vatnajökull
Your journey starts along Iceland's south coast where you'll stop for walks and short hikes to take in the landscape. Throughout the day, you'll see waterfalls dropping from cliffs nearly 100 meters high, walk across black beaches, and check out a lava cave. If you're lucky, you might spot puffins along the way. The drive takes you past outwash plains and glacier tongues before you arrive at Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, by late afternoon. Your accommodation sits near a glacier tongue that you can hike the next day.

Landmarks Vatnajökull - Day 4
Vatnajökull
This day gives you flexibility based on what interests you. You can join an optional guided glacier hike on Vatnajökull (3 hours total, with 1.5 hours actually on the glacier and crampons provided), self-guide a walk to a glacier tongue and glacial lake, or simply relax at the guesthouse. In the early afternoon, you'll drive to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to see the shimmering blue icebergs. From there, head to Diamond Beach where icebergs wash up on black sand. An optional kayak tour is available if you want to paddle through the ice-blue water near the glacier.

Skaftafell National Park
Today takes you to Skaftafell National Park for a hike along the Kristinartindar ridge, which gives you an impressive view of the glacier landscape from above. Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier outside polar regions, spreads out beneath you, covering one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. The hike length can be adjusted to match your fitness level and preferences, so you have control over how much ground you cover.

Landmannalaugar
You're driving into Iceland's remote highlands on the F208 road, which means navigating river crossings and crossing vast lava fields. You'll reach Landmannalaugar and then hike up Brennisteinsalda mountain to see the colored landscape with red, yellow, black, green, and turquoise volcanic terrain. If hiking doesn't appeal as much, you can relax in the warm natural river instead.

Golden Circle
You'll explore Iceland's Golden Circle in southwest Iceland, starting with a morning hike through a hobbit-like landscape to the hidden Haifoss waterfall. Next, you'll see the mighty Gullfoss waterfall from the left-hand side before heading to the legendary Great Geyser (Strokkur). Here a dome of water slowly builds before exploding into a fountain reaching 25-35 meters high every 10-20 minutes, surrounded by mysterious mist and bubbling springs. By late afternoon you'll head back to your guesthouse, with an optional evening stop at the Secret Lagoon, Iceland's oldest natural swimming pool.

Start your day at Thingvellir National Park, Iceland's historic birthplace, then head to Glymur, the second highest waterfall in the country. You'll navigate a rustic rope bridge and some steep sections for gorge views along the way. After that, take a leisurely walk through Reykjavik and grab a local beer before driving to your accommodation on the Reykjanes peninsula.
