- MTMarcella· March 15th, 2025ToRva our guide was fantastic! He made the trip entertaining and informative - warning ‼️ if you choose this company get the HOTEL package it includes free hot/cold buffet breakfast at each location NOT the hostel option - I switched mid trip to hotels as the hostel accommodations were the absolute cheapest options and got worse as the trip went -had no towels for a shower, creaky/ noisy beds no plugins at the beds, no reading lights, not nice at all - and last one had shared unisex bathroom all all toilets were constantly clogged plus “very sketchy men” I felt bad for fellow women who stayed at Inverness hostel - as they told me -you made the right choice.- Remember the tiny towns had nothing (not even a store) - open at 8-8:30 am so couldn’t even buy coffee or food till 2 stops away. It was hard being there so early spring so a lot of places were closed but definitely our guide made sure we had a good time and took us to places off the tour in the areas that we wanted to see. Torva had great stories and he definitely made the trip entertaining.Show moreHaggis Adventures commented on this reviewHi Marcella, Good Afternoon Thanks for your 4 star review. - KLKate· October 7th, 2024The tour I took was called Lochs, Castles and The Kelpies, and I took it on November 23, 2023. In short, I loved it! The history of the places and fun facts kept coming as we drove to and from each destination. Our guides went out of their way to show us an amazing day! Besides viewing the Western Highlands of Scotland, my favourite was The Kelpies. The history of the sculptures, and the majesty and beauty of the Kelpies against the beautiful landscape, was something I will always remember.Show moreHaggis Adventures commented on this reviewHi Kate, thanks for your 5 star review. - PHPaul· September 5th, 2024The destinations and the guide were excellent! Dusty is an excellent guide and did an amazing job of keeping us informed and on time. The only area I would say needs to be changed is the size of the bus seats. When driving around for 5 days the seats are small and not as comfortable as other tours.Show moreHaggis Adventures commented on this reviewHi Paul, thanks for your 5 star review. - Marilyn· September 1st, 2024This was a well organized overview of the Scottish Highlands, capturing the highlights and offering a nice variety of activities. Our guide played a pivotal role in our enjoyment of the experience. Dusty deftly managed a few of our group that were a bit challenging in their demeanour. - SLSusanna· August 4th, 2024A great introduction to Scotland and its culture and traditions. We regularly stopped at lovely villages, saw some stunning sites and drove through the most beautiful landscapes. Everyday there were some possibilities to do some walks, and as we arrived at the hotel by 5pm in the evening, we had lots of time off to explore the villages and dive into local food and entertainment. We were a group of 29 of all ages, and a good mixture of couples, families and solo travellers. I booked the hostel accommodation which was fine because we were the same people from the group staying in one room. Our guide Paul was perfect, very kind and knowledgeable. He entertained us during the bus rides with interesting and funny stories, background information and music. He was mindful of our needs and wishes, and a great driver. I can highly recommend this tour!Show moreHaggis Adventures commented on this reviewHi Susanna, thanks for your 5 star review. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your tour with us. - SDStephen· July 23rd, 2024First of all, I need to say that my review and rating have nothing to do with my driver/guide Cara or her trainee Lauri. They were both energetic, excellent and professional at their jobs and went out of their way to be informative and take into consideration the needs of the group throughout the trip. There were some things that went wrong on our tour (not being able to get on the ferry and having to drive to Isle of Skye, etc.) but they worked hard to keep everyone's spirits up throughout and overall made the trip enjoyable. The low rating is for the absolute bait and switch that was this tour. Prior to traveling, I looked into every piece of marketing, blog post, and review that I could about Haggis Adventures. I was expecting a Highland Adventure running up and down mountains by day, exploring castles, jumping into lochs, and partying in a tartan toga by night. Although I personally am a bit beyond staying in hostels at this point in my life, I figured it would be worthwhile to stay in inferior accomodations to travel with a fun group. I was fully aware going into this trip that sometimes Haggis Adventures shares buses with their sister company, Highland Explorer Tours, however I (incorrectly) assumed that during high season this would be unlikely as the company should have enough bookings to run seperate trips. I was wrong. Our group was 95% older Highland Explorer passengers and unfortunately the tour (rightly so) mainly catered to them. Our group mainly consisted of retirees and families with young children. Although they were all very nice people and I got along with everyone, it was far from the wild Scottish Adventure I was expecting. The plain truth of it is, I expected a certain type of trip and received another. I could have easily paid for a Highland Explorer Tour and stayed in better accomodations, however the Highland Explorer experience was not the one I was looking for. During the daytime, stops were all geared towards the Highland Explorer passengers. I was really hoping for more "active" stops that I had seen from other Haggis Adventures tours. Wanna tour a castle? How about we stop at some Tchotchke shop across the water for 15 minutes and take pictures instead. Wanna hike up a mountain? You'll see people doing just that from the bus window. Wanna jump in a fairy pool? There may be some puddles as you hop off the bus at the next tourist trap. By nighttime, activities were simply non-existent as our older passengers mainly needed to get their rest. For anyone that wants to know, the hostel accomodations were a mixed bag. The hostel in Oban was very nice, almost like a hotel. I wound up in a private room with a shared bathroom since I was the only guy traveling in our group. In Portree (Isle of Skye) the hostel was OK. 4 bed dorm with ensuite. Overall fairly clean and in a good location. The hostel in Inverness (Black Isle Hostel) wasn't great. 4 bed shared dorm with strangers, (which was fine and expected) however the hostel itself had a number of strange characters hanging around day and night. There was one guy who was always in the bathroom day and night blasting music on his phone while wearing winter clothes in the middle of summer. I didn't have any issues, but could see some people being a little uncomfortable. When I was younger, I had traveled with Contiki across Europe and had an incredible time. From this trip, I was hoping for a group in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s that was active and up for a fun adventure through the Scottish Highlands. Unfortunately it felt more like our small Haggis group was shoehorned into a tour for retirees. I would strongly advise anyone considering booking with Haggis Adventures to maybe consider a more traditional backpacking tour company that won't mix you in with a slower paced group. I don't think Haggis Adventures as a brand really exists anymore the way it did pre-pandemic. I believe they have severely dilluted their product and you won't be having the Adventure that you are hoping for.Show moreHaggis Adventures commented on this reviewHi there Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback on your recent tour with us. Asked on April 24th, 2025I noticed this tour has an age limit of 45. How strict is that? My wife is in her 50s, and I just turned 60, but we are very active and able to keep up. Will they allow us to attend this tour?
- Haggis AdventuresOperator•Written April 2025
There is no age limit on this tour, however, this does involve staying in a shared hostel room. We do offer B&B accommodation on our sister company.

Traveler•Written April 2025Can you please explain the alternate accommodations you mentioned with your sister company? Would we still be on the Highland Fling tour? Please include the cost involved.
- Haggis AdventuresOperator•Written April 2025
Our sister company - Highland Explorer tours, offers private B&B accommodation. We allow children over 5 years old to travel on these tours. This would be the same route, just alternative accommodation.

Asked on February 1st, 2025Why is the upper age range for the Highland Fling limited to 45? I am close to 75 years old, and my sister who would be taking the tour with me is 62. I am wondering if there is a particular reason why we might not be able to take this tour.
- Haggis AdventuresOperator•Written February 2025
This tour is aimed at a younger crowd and we stay in Shared accommodation, which many older travellers may not find suitable. Please find link to our sister company - Highland Explorer Tours. They offer the exact same routes, however they stay in private B&B accommodation instead.
