    Amsterdam

    You'll arrive in Amsterdam and get settled on your river cruise ship. Flights need to touch down by 2 pm, and you should be on board by 5 pm. Before the evening cruise heads to Nijmegen, the rest of your day is yours to spend however you'd like around the city.

  2. Day 2

    Nijmegen

    Nijmegen gives you choices for the day. You can bike through the Ooijpolder Nature Reserve, take a guided tour of the Netherlands' oldest town and learn about its 2,000 years of Roman and WWII history, or visit the Airborne Museum of Hartenstein about the 1944 Battle of Arnhem. Pick one included activity or wander around on your own.

    In Antwerp, your Adventure Host will help you pick an activity. Options include a botany lecture while sailing, a bike tour through the city, a guided look at the city center and Cathedral of Our Lady with Rubens' paintings, or a trip to the Arboretum Kalmthout. Later you'll have dinner and catch live entertainment.

    Namur offers three included activities to choose from. Bike through the countryside with your Adventure Host, check out Jardins D'Annevoie with its French, Italian and English garden styles, or take a guided tour of the old-town, fortress citadel and medieval buildings.

    Liège

    In Liège, you'll pick between two activities. Tour the Botanical Garden and Greenhouses with a walking tour of the historical center, or join a guided tour of the 'Fiery City' exploring its ancient quarters, alleys and romantic streets while trying authentic Liège waffles. You'll sail to Maastricht during dinner.

Live entertainment follows this evening.

    Today is free time in Brussels. Head to the Floralia exhibition at Castle of Groot-Bijgaarden to see spring flowers and a fairy tale setting, or explore at your own pace. Try some of Brussels' hearty cuisine and famous beer. Later you'll sail to Ghent for dinner on board.

Alternatively, take a full-day optional excursion to Bruges. Live entertainment happens this evening.

You'll visit the In Flanders' Field Museum in Ypres to learn about Belgium's invasion, mobilization, trench warfare and lasting remembrance, then have lunch at the museum's café. After that, explore battlefields, cemeteries and memorials. Before dinner you have free time, then witness the nightly Last Post Ceremony under the Menin Gate arches.

Lunch happens on board while cruising to Veere. Then either hike in the Domburg area or take an expert local guide tour, plus hear a botany and nature lecture while sailing.

    Your Adventure Host will help you choose between biking to see Kinderdijk's windmills or a guided tour about the 19 windmills built in 1740 that stopped floods and became a national symbol. You'll cruise through Rotterdam harbor, then pick between biking Rotterdam, touring Westland greenhouses and the museum, or seeing Rotterdam's innovative architecture like the Erasmus Bridge. Live entertainment closes the evening.

That afternoon you can add optional excursions to Zaanse Schans or try a culinary tour through the city.

    We would like to thank our Statesman Attendee that took care of all our needs in our room 107. He was friendly and did an amazing job, Marisio our waiter served us with the highest respect and friendliness. Over all Avalon have very good staff and always a smile- nothing too much trouble. The ship was so clean, food was spectacular. We had a surprise group of singers Gwen and Charles who brought great entertainment. The other entertainer was amazing. Loved the top deck BBQ. We met lots of new friends aboard. Thank you Avalon for a trip well executed.
