You'll arrive in Amsterdam with the whole day ahead before your cruise ship check-in at 5 pm. Head to Zaanse Schans if you want to see the historic windmills and traditional Dutch houses, or just wander around soaking in the Christmas atmosphere around the city. Either way, make sure you're back in time to get on board.

Amsterdam to Cologne

Cologne

The ship sails through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you'll see ancient castles and the famous Rock of the Lorelei from the deck. During the day, visit the Mechanical Music Museum and try an authentic Rüdesheimer coffee. You can also browse the Christmas markets, and there's live entertainment on the ship in the evening.

You have a choice today. Either join a guided tour to Heidelberg Castle to see the Renaissance ruins and the World's Largest Wine Barrel during the Christmas season, or take a different city walk that includes the Gutenberg Museum and other historical sites. After exploring, the ship heads toward Kehl.

From there, explore Lucerne with a guided walking tour that shows you Thorvaldsen's Lion Monument and the famous Chapel Bridge.
