Itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi to Arusha
You'll leave Nairobi early and cross into Tanzania, heading toward Arusha near the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. After stopping at the curio markets, you'll arrive at Meserani Snake Park campsite. This afternoon includes a visit to a nearby Maasai village, then you'll check out the snake park to see crocodiles, pythons, and other reptiles up close.

Arusha to Serengeti National Park
Switch to smaller, specialized safari vehicles for your drive into Serengeti National Park. You'll travel around the rim of Ngorongoro Crater before heading to your unfenced bush campsite. Spending the night here means falling asleep to the actual sounds of the African wild around you.

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Your final game drive happens in the crater before heading back to camp for lunch. After that, you'll pack up everything and return to Arusha.

- Day 5
Arusha to Bagamoyo
Wake up early and travel south through Moshi toward Bagamoyo. If weather cooperates, you'll get views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Arriving in Bagamoyo, a quiet town founded at the end of the 18th century and once a major East African trading port, you'll camp for the evening near palm-lined beaches on the Indian Ocean.

- Day 6
Bagamoyo to Dar es Salaam
The drive down the Tanzanian coast to Dar es Salaam takes around 2 to 3 hours. Once there, you'll explore the city on your own, checking out Arab architecture and vibrant markets, hitting the beaches and bars. You'll camp on the beach tonight before catching the ferry to Zanzibar tomorrow.

Zanzibar Island
Another day at Zanzibar's northern beaches with more sun, sea, and sand. You've got unstructured time to relax or try optional activities as you prefer.

- Day 10
Zanzibar Island to Dar es Salaam
This morning you'll have one more swim before checking out after breakfast and catching the ferry back to the mainland. Tonight you'll camp by the coast, with the option to head back into Dar if you'd rather do that.

- Day 11
Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park
Back on the overland truck, you'll head inland toward the Malawian border. You'll drive through Mikumi National Park and stop if wildlife like forest elephants or giraffe herds show up. Camping happens at the edge of the reserve with an optional evening game drive available, drinks at the local bar, and time around the campfire.

- Day 12
Mikumi National Park to Iringa
You'll travel through the spectacular Southern Highlands of Tanzania. Your stop is at a local family-run farm about 50km from Iringa, run by the Ghaui family for over 70 years. The farm grows organic crops and meat for local communities and Dar es Salaam, and it's a well-known camping spot heading toward Malawi.

Iringa to Mbeya Region
Heading toward Malawi, you'll stop at Utengule Coffee Lodge in the Mbeya range of Southern Tanzania. The views of the East African Rift Valley are there for taking in. You can unwind by the pool or try activities like squash, tennis, pool, table tennis, and volleyball. Those interested in coffee can do a guided tour through the plantation with roasting demonstrations and a taste of their own coffee.

Mbeya Region to Chitimba Beach, Malawi
After your last night in Tanzania, you'll travel to the Songwe border post and cross into Malawi. Lake Malawi takes up nearly a fifth of the country and supports local livelihoods. At dawn you'll see fishermen in traditional Bwato dugout canoes casting their nets. You'll have plenty of free time to relax on the beach, walk through the village, check out the local craft market and try woodcarving, learn the traditional game of Bao, or shop for handmade items.

Your entire day is unscheduled in Nkhotakota Region. You can choose to hire a kayak, go snorkelling, take a village walk, hike to a waterfall, or just relax and enjoy the warm, fresh waters of Lake Malawi.

Landmarks Lake Malawi - Day 17
Nkhotakota Region to Petauke, Zambia
You'll say goodbye to Lake Malawi and drive through Nkhotakota Game Reserve on your way to the border, then cross into Zambia. From there, you'll continue to Petauke, a region known for strong agricultural production. You'll pass fields of maize, cotton, sunflowers, soya beans, and other crops, seeing the farming life that keeps this part of Zambia going.

Landmarks Nkhotakota Game Reserve - Day 18
Petauke to Lusaka
An early start for a long drive to Lusaka, the Zambian capital. The scenery changes as you travel the Great Eastern Road through lush countryside and cross the rushing Luangwa River. You'll camp at a quiet farm outside Lusaka, Southern Africa's fastest-growing city.

Livingstone
You've got a completely free day to do as little or as much as you like. Livingstone attracts adrenalin junkies with plenty of optional activities available, but you can also just relax by the pool if that sounds better.
