- Srinivas· August 15th, 2023I had a wonderful time on this safari and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the best of Africa on a budget. Here is my review: I joined the Nairobi to Zanzibar safari with Absolute Africa and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The trip was well-organized, affordable, and full of amazing experiences. I saw incredible wildlife in the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater, as well as beautiful scenery in the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha. The trip would not have been possible without the excellent crew of Absolute Africa. Our cook Joseph was amazing, he prepared delicious meals every day, catering to our dietary preferences and needs. He always had a smile on his face and a joke to share. Our tour leader Martin was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He gave us detailed information about each destination, arranged optional activities for us, and made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times. He also handled any issues that arose with professionalism and efficiency. The overland truck was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed for camping. The tents were easy to set up and pack away, and the sleeping mats were ok and cozy. The truck also had a fridge and plenty of storage space. The trip was a perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and fun.I learned a lot about Africa's culture, history, and nature. I would definitely book another trip with Absolute Africa in the future. They are the best overland company in Africa!Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewHi Srinivas, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent trip with us. - Anonymous· September 1st, 2018Overall, I was pretty happy with the trip, I saw all the things that I wanted to including trekking gorillas and see the big five as well as five hunting cheetahs. But that's pretty much all down to luck - in terms of the trip let's start with the good: the tents and mats were good quality and kept dry in a couple of torrential downpours. The food was overall pretty good although we occasionally didn't have enough. The driver was great and drove safely and carefully in very difficult terrain. The truck was fine although having half the seats the wrong way around led to some disputes over seats as pretty much anybody would get motion sick on those roads. I did have a few issues along the way, first of all, the estimated driving time was usually off often by a 100% ie. a 3-hour trip took 5-6 hours and a 6-hour journey took 12+. I fully understand that it can be hard to estimate travel times but I would suggest overestimating as opposed to under as it makes people grumpy and it meant that some optional activities were not available. Second, people would join and leave the trip continuously, so the group would balloon and shrink from 15-26 people - this was pretty frustrating particularly because it meant little group cohesion. Third, the camp in the Serengeti was completely overrun - max capacity was 80 people, we had 240 the night we stayed there, this meant overflowing toilets and lack of water. Fourth, arranging your own activities in places where the truck was parked was frown upon and admonished by the guide. Fifth, information was sometimes patchy which meant that the group would spend a lot of time getting off the bus, getting our stuff because we hadn't be informed about what we needed. Along the way, I realized that a lot of smaller groups and independent travelers kinda hate the overland trucks when they pitch their tents - they are often loud, drinking and kinda obnoxious .... From my perspective, it was a trade-off between convenience, seeing a lot in a short time and at a relatively cheap price versus the control I have when I travel on my own. I did miss the opportunity to engage with locals in more meaningful ways.Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewHi Stine, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. - Georgia· July 29th, 2018Our tour was amazing - from our cook Joseph, to our driver David and of course our guide for the duration of the trip Edmund who went absolutely above and beyond introducing us to all his friends at the Zanzibar Food Festival so we had a taste of everything Zanzibar had to offer. The itinerary was perfect, with our group even making the few 7 hour drive days easy and hilarious! I could not have asked for a better way to spend three weeks seeing a new part of East Africa. Thank you so much.Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you very much for taking the time to leave a review, Georgia. Asked on April 16th, 2025I saw on your Kenya & Tanzania trip it said you could ask about a Serengeti trip. I am looking for a Lions, Tigers, & Cheetahs Trip photography, Camping trip then I also saw in Kenya you visit an Orphanage which I would like to visit. Do you have any thing like that? I'm looking for as many days as possible. I am a 73 year old retired woman wanting to fulfill a lifetime dream.
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written April 2025
Our 20 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari has the option to do game drives in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. This is a 3 day/2 night optional excursion and is 645 USD payable once you are out in Africa. The same 20 day Kenya and Tanzania Safari also visits an orphanage whilst in Kenya. Our tours are group participation in style, and they are camping tours. This being the case most nights you are sleeping on the ground in a tent. Tents need to be put up and down often on a daily basis and camping conditions are often basic.

Traveler•Written April 2025Honestly; I have no problem sleeping on the ground or getting up and down in the truck. However setting tents up and cooking for other people just to save a dollar is too much. I did that for years for my kids and my mom. I want to come take pictures and enjoy the trip not be worried that I have to come back to camp and work.

Asked on March 16th, 2025Can I arrange my own accommodations and transportation in Zanzibar?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written March 2025
You can book just the ferry to Zanzibar for your tour and make your own accommodation and local transport arrangements once there.

Asked on January 28th, 2025How long before my trip should I apply for a tourist visa?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written January 2025
It is recommended to apply for a tourist visa at least 3 weeks before your departure. You will need a travel voucher to apply for the visa, as new rules do not allow for visas on arrival.

Asked on November 18th, 2024How does the tour handle transfers if I end my tour in Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written November 2024
Most travelers arrange open-jaw/multi-city flights into Nairobi and out of Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam. Alternatively, you can add a flight from either Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam back to Nairobi upon your request.

Asked on June 19th, 2024As i have an issue with my bladder, will the bus have a toilet on board? Do we need to put up the tents ourselves?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written June 2024
The trucks do not have toilets on board. We make toilet stops as and when possible as we drive but obviously this can still be spaced out by a couple of hours. Travellers pair up to share the tents and are responsible to out up and take down the tent each day. The tour leader will explain at the start of the trip how to do this and assist with any issues.

Asked on January 7th, 2024Is it possible to pick up and drop off same in Nairobi?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written January 2024
This tour ends on Zanzibar Island if you choose to do the 4 night optional excursion, or otherwise in Dar es Salaam on the Tanzanian coast. You can look at open jaw/multi city flights into Nairobi and out of zanzibar or Dar es Salaam and this is what most people do for this trip. If you wish to fly in and out of Nairobi, then you would just need to look at an add-on flight from either Zanzibar or Dar es salaam back to Nairobi.

Asked on January 4th, 2024What are the accommodation options during the Zanzibar stay included in the tour?
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written January 2024
The standard Zanzibar stay in our tour includes 4 nights accommodation, consisting of 3 nights at the beach and 1 night in Stone Town.

Asked on July 2nd, 2022Is the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater guided safari 3 day/2 night before, after or during the tour? Also interested in Scuba diving and Zanzibar tour.
- Absolute AfricaOperator•Written July 2022
The 3 day/2 night safari into the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater is an optional activity available during the tour. Most people do opt to do this and it is run by a local operator with 4x4 Land Cruisers with pop up roof and not on the main overland truck. Scuba diving can be organised once on Zanzibar if you already dive, or we can give more details as to some dive schools.
