Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu

You'll arrive in Kathmandu and connect with your guide at the airport for the drive to your hotel in Thamel. This neighborhood is where most travelers base themselves, so you'll find plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. After checking in, take the rest of the day to settle and get some sleep before the trek begins.

    Start point
Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) त्रिभुवन विमानस्थल, त्रिभुवन विमानस्थल, Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal (we will pick you up from the airport)
  2. Day 2

    Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding

An early morning scenic flight gets you from Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hilary Airport in Lukla, and the mountain views on the way are something else. From there, you'll start walking the trail to Phakding, following alongside the Dudh Koshi River. The walk is relatively easy today since your body's adjusting to being at altitude.

    Included Activities

    • Round trip flight Kathmandu to Lukla
    Landmarks/POIs
    Dudh Koshi River
    Tenzing-Hilary Airport
  3. Day 3

    Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Walking through smaller villages like Toc-Toc, Benkar, and Monjo, you'll cross several bridges spanning the Dudh Kosi River. After entering Sagarmatha National Park, the trail gets steeper as you climb toward Namche Bazaar, which sits at 11,286 feet (3,440m). When you arrive, you'll see it's a proper town with restaurants, guesthouses, and even internet, which is helpful for checking in with people back home.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek to Namche Bazaar via Toc-Toc, Benkar, and Monjo
    • Sagarmatha National Park entrance
    Landmarks/POIs
    Sagarmatha National Park
    Namche Bazaar
    Itinerary Image 1
  4. Day 4

    Namche Bazaar

This day is built in for your body to adjust to the altitude, so you won't trek very far. If you want to stay moving, there are optional walks to Thame or Khunde. The weekly market happens Friday evening and Saturday morning, and the Tourist Visitor Center has information about past Everest climbers and the local environment. Otherwise, wandering the town itself gives you plenty to do.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Visit to Tourist Visitor Center at Sagarmatha National Park headquarters

    Optional Activities

    • Trek to Thame
    • Trek to Khunde
    • Explore Namche Bazaar weekly market
    Landmarks/POIs
    Namche Bazaar
  5. Day 5

    Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Following the Dudh Kosi River as it rushes down from the mountains, you'll gradually climb to Tengboche Village at 12,661 feet (3,860m). The main reason to come here is the monastery, which has remarkable decorative wall hangings, a 6-meter Buddha statue, Tibetan instruments, and colorful Lama robes. If you're interested, stick around for evening prayers.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek to Tengboche
    • Evening prayer at Tengboche Monastery
    Landmarks/POIs
    Dudh Koshi River
    Tengboche Monastery
  6. Day 6

    Tengboche to Dingboche

The trek to Dingboche feels a bit easier paced than previous days as you walk through Somare and Orsho. Then the final stretch kicks in with a steep climb to Dingboche Village at 14,468 feet (4,410m), where lodges are set up for the night. This is when you'll really feel how altitude affects your body, and that's normal at this height.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek to Dingboche via Somare and Orsho
    Landmarks/POIs
    Dingboche
  7. Day 7

    Dingboche

Another acclimatization day, so you're staying in Dingboche but moving around. Head up 1,312 feet (400m) to Nangkartshang Gompa, which sits on a ridge north of the village and gives you views of Mt. Makalu and Mt. Ama Dablam. If you're feeling strong, some people push to the summit at Nangkartshang at 16,699 feet (5,090m).

  8. Day 8

    Dingboche to Gorak Shep

You'll trek to Dughla Village first, then tackle the steep moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier where the ground is covered in boulders. After climbing to Chupki Lhara, you'll see prayer flags that memorialize climbers Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa. As you keep going, huge peaks like Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, and Mahalangur Himal come into sight.

Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp to Gorak Shep

Moving higher up the mountain, you'll pass Gorak Shep Lake and a memorial to Indian mountaineers. The air gets noticeably thinner and walking becomes harder work. After navigating rocky terrain, moraine, and streams, you'll reach Everest Base Camp and see the colorful tents of mountaineers mixed with peaks like Nuptse, Khumbutse, and Pumori with their snow-covered tops. You'll head back down to Gorak Shep for the night.
