- Day 1
Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding
After an early breakfast, you'll board a scenic flight to Lukla, landing on that steep mountain runway. Once you're on the ground, you'll meet your crew and sort through the equipment before starting the trek up the Dudh Kosi Valley. The trail is well-marked with views of the sacred Mt. Khumbila throughout. You'll reach Phakding by evening for your overnight stay.

Phakding to Namche
Starting after breakfast, you trek toward Namche by crossing high suspension bridges and passing the Sagarmatha National Park entrance. The hike gets steep at times, and on clear days you'll catch your first glimpse of Mt. Everest from up here. Namche itself is the main trading hub with a busy Saturday market if you're timing it right. You'll spend the night in town.

Namche
This is your acclimatization day in Namche, so you have options for how to spend it. You can check out Khunde Hospital (established by Sir Edmund Hillary), hike to the Everest View Hotel for sunset, visit the Khumjung school, or walk through the National Park Centre and Museum. Browse the Tibetan trader stalls and Sherpa shops, then head back to your lodge to rest.

Namche to Tyangboche
The trek toward Tyangboche offers superb views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. You'll follow a gradual trail with ups and downs through pine forests, passing Kyangjuma, Sanasa, and Phunki Tenga along the way. Keep your eyes open for pheasants, musk deer, and Himalayan Thar. By evening you'll reach the Tyangboche monastery for your overnight.

Tyangboche to Dingboche
After breakfast, you trek through mountain scenery with the monastery glowing in morning light. The upper trail takes you past Pangboche village and its ancient monastery with Chortens and Mani walls. Later, after lunch with close-up views of Ama-Dablam, you head north or take the eastward trail into the Imja Valley. The steepest climb gets you to Dingboche with its distinctive stone-walled fields by nightfall.

Dingboche
Today's your acclimatization day to prepare your body for higher altitudes. Hike up a crest behind the village for great views of Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Cholatse peaks. You'll see more Himalayan peaks above the Khumbu Khola Valley including Lobuche West and East. From another ridge site, take in views of the Imja Khola Valley and Dingboche village below. You'll overnight in Dingboche again.

Dingboche to Lobuche
After a hot breakfast, you trek slowly gaining altitude above the timber line with views of Cholatse and Lobuche peaks. The trail heads up the Dhugla rim onto a moraine toward Khumbu Glacier, passing rock cairns that mark where climbers have died. Temperatures drop noticeably as you ascend the glacial moraine, and you'll see Pumori and Nuptse throughout. The trail softens as you near Lobuche for your overnight stay.

Lobuche to Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp
This is a challenging day trekking alongside Khumbu Glacier along the rocky moraine toward Gorak Shep, a settlement that was once a large lake. You'll be surrounded by glaciers and high peaks among the world's mightiest mountains. After an early lunch at Gorak Shep, you trek up to Everest Base Camp where you may see mountaineering expeditions if you're going in May. You'll overnight at the guest house.

Kalapathar to Pheriche
The most important day of your trip starts early at dawn in dark, cold temperatures around -10 to -14°C/14-7°F to catch dramatic first light on Mt. Everest from Kalapathar. Prepare for strong winds as you ascend past Lingtren, Khumbutse and Changtse with Everest emerging between peaks. Pause at viewpoints for photos on the way up, then reach the rocky summit marked by cairns and prayer flags. Take in the incredible Himalayan views before descending slowly to Pheriche for rest and a hot breakfast.

Pheriche to Namche
After a good breakfast, you hike down a hillside carpeted with rhododendron and juniper trees for a peaceful walk. Cross the prayer-flagged bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and descend through the gorge via lovely pine forests. Look for colorful pheasants and mountain goats along the way, and pass through Sanasa for views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Nuptse. The twisting trails through forests eventually lead you back to Namche Bazaar for your overnight.

Namche to Lukla
Your last day on the mountains covers the same route down but you'll notice completely different views, from open plains to rhododendron and pine forests with distant snow-covered peaks. Walk at your own pace and experience the Sherpa villages' impressive Buddhist faith through prayer stones and prayer flags. You'll arrive in Lukla with plenty of time to relax while your leader re-confirms flight tickets. In the evening, enjoy a specially prepared celebratory dinner with your crew, featuring local mountain beer (chhang, or fermented rice) and Sherpa dancing.

Lukla to Kathmandu
You'll board an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. After your long mountain journey, you can rest, go souvenir shopping, or explore ancient parts of Kathmandu if you have energy. A farewell dinner in the evening celebrates the successful completion of your trek.
