Itinerary
- Day 1
Wallachia to Bucovina
You're leaving Wallachia and heading north into Bucovina, a region that's known for its painted monasteries and traditional architecture. The villages here have houses decorated with intricate floral and geometric patterns that have been passed down through generations. You'll notice the local character right away, and the people you meet tend to be genuinely welcoming. This whole area feels quite different from what you've just left behind, with its own distinct cultural identity and slower pace of life.

Bucovina Painted Monasteries
Today focuses on three major painted monasteries that really showcase Bucovina's religious and artistic heritage. You'll start at Moldovita Monastery, which dates back to 1532 and sits in a beautiful setting. From there, head to Sucevita, which is the largest of the painted monasteries and has a fortress-like structure that's quite impressive, plus its exterior frescoes are among the best preserved you'll see. The day finishes at Voronet Convent, sometimes called the 'Sixtine Chapel of the Orient' because of its extraordinary Doomsday painting and that signature Voronet blue color that appears nowhere else quite like it does here.
