Itinerary

Bucharest to Sighisoara
You'll head out early from Bucharest and drive north toward the Carpathian Mountains. Your first stop is Peles Castle in Sinaia, a 19th-century royal palace with ornate rooms and gardens that give you a real sense of how Romania's monarchy lived. From there, you'll continue to Bran Castle, the fortress from 1212 that's connected to the Dracula legend. After grabbing lunch, you'll wander through Brasov's old town and see the Black Church, an impressive Gothic structure that dominates the main square. By evening you'll arrive in Sighisoara for the night.

Sighisoara to Bucharest
This morning after breakfast you'll explore Sighisoara, a medieval citadel where people still actually live. The Clock Tower stands about 64 meters high, and you can climb up to the viewing platform for views across the town and surrounding area. Later you'll head to Sibiu, another major Transylvanian city with Saxon heritage, checking out the Holy Trinity Cathedral and Huet Square with its Evangelical Church. For your return to Bucharest, you'll take the Transfagarasan road through the mountains if weather allows, which cuts through some dramatic alpine scenery and high passes.
