Kathmandu
A Sherpa Expedition Teams representative picks you up at the airport and takes you to your hotel in Thamel. From there, you'll have the rest of the day to walk around the neighborhood and take care of any last-minute shopping before the trek starts.

Landmarks Thamel - Day 2
Kathmandu
You'll spend the day visiting several important sites in Kathmandu Valley. Start at Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal, which sits on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River. Then head to Bouddhanath, a Tibetan Buddhist temple often called 'Little Tibet', followed by the Monkey Temple at Swayambhunath. Later in the day, check out Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site with its old royal palace.

Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding
Head to Kathmandu's domestic terminal for a 35-minute flight to Lukla, where your trek officially begins. The trail is fairly easy to navigate as you pass through Kyangma Village with its large monastery, then Cheplung Village. After that, you'll walk through a forest near the Dudh Koshi River, cross a suspension bridge to reach Ghat Village, and finally arrive in Phakding Village.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar
The day involves crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River while passing through Tok-Tok, Benkar, and Monjo. You'll reach the Sagarmatha National Park entrance where you'll need to purchase a trekking permit. After trekking along the river and crossing the Hillary suspension bridge, there's a steep climb up to Namche Bazaar, which has restaurants, internet cafés, pubs, a post office, ATM and banks.

Namche Bazaar
Today is for acclimatization, so staying active is important. You can hike up to Everest View Resort, head to Thame or Khunde, or just wander around Namche Bazaar. If you'd like, visit the Tourist Visitor Center near Sagarmatha National Park headquarters to see relics from the first Everest climbers, Sherpa cultural artifacts, and learn about the region's wildlife and plants.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Start with a steep climb from the valley, moving through rhododendron, juniper and conifer forests with nice scents in the air. The route passes through Yak Kharka and various Sherpa villages, and you'll get good views of Khumbu La Pass and Tengboche.

Tengboche to Machhermo

Machhermo to Gokyo
You'll get your first look at Mt. Cho Oyu (8281m) and the gorge at the base of Mt. Khangtega. The massive Ngozumpa Glacier becomes visible from here. After a lunch break, continue on to Gokyo's fifth lake with its turquoise blue water, then gradually work your way up to Gokyo.

- Day 9
Gokyo to Cho La Pass
This is a tough day as you climb a steep trail to Gokyo RI (5357m). From the top, you'll see Gokyo Valley, the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, and views across the entire Khumbu region including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang (7952m). Return to the foot of Cho La Pass and stay overnight in a dormitory.

Cho La Pass to Lungden
Early morning climb to Gokyo RI (5333m) for views of the colossal Ngozumpa Glacier, upper Gokyo Valley, and the Himalayan peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Nuptse, Cho-Oyu, and Gychung Kang. Continue over Renjo La Pass (5345m), then descend to Lungden Village (4,350m) for the night.

Lungden to Thame
Head to Thame (3800m) to visit the famous Thame monastery and hear the Buddhist prayers of the monks. You'll get to experience Sherpa hospitality, traditions and culture with locals. Thame is the birthplace of Apa Sherpa, who has summited Everest 21 times. Stay overnight here to prepare for the next day's descent.

Thame to Namche Bazaar
The trail passes through several villages including Khumjung. With the mountains behind you, continue on to Namche Bazaar, a famous Buddhist town that's full of Sherpa culture and energy. It's a place where trekkers rest and share their stories.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla
This is your final day on the trail heading back to Lukla. You'll have time to think about the journey and feel relieved that you've completed the trek. The afternoon is free to explore Lukla, grab a hot shower or have a few drinks at a bar.

Lukla to Kathmandu

Kathmandu Departure
After finishing your trek to Gokyo Renjo La Pass with Sherpa Expedition Teams, you'll be taken to the airport at least three hours before your scheduled departure. Take time to think back on this incredible adventure in the Himalayan Mountains and consider planning a return trip.
