Itinerary
- Day 1
El Chaltén to Poincenot Camp
You'll start with a 30-minute transfer to the Hosteria El Pilar trailhead, then begin trekking 15 km toward the Fitz Roy massif. The hike to Poincenot camp takes about 7 hours at medium-high intensity, so expect a solid day of hiking. After you settle in at camp, there's the option to push another 400 meters upward to Laguna de los Tres viewpoint, sitting at 1,160m altitude, where you'll get your first real look at Fitz Roy's massive peaks.

- Day 2
Poincenot Camp to Cerro Torre Valley
Following breakfast, you'll head out to take photos and hike along Mother and Daughter lakes toward Cerro Torre valley. This part of the trek runs for about 5 hours at a gentler pace, which gives you time to soak in the surroundings. Once you drop your gear at camp, you can choose to keep going to Laguna Torre and the Maestri lookout if you've got energy left, or stick with settling in for the day.

- Day 3
Cerro Torre Valley to Laguna Toro
After breakfast, you'll pack up and spend time practicing harness use before heading toward Torre Lake. The route crosses the Fitz Roy River using a zip line, then cuts through forest and rocky sections to Agachonas Pass where you'll find valley views. From there it's a descent into Túnel Valley with glacier vistas visible, and then a push west to Laguna Toro camp. This is a full day at 8 to 9 hours with high intensity, so come ready to work.

Laguna Toro to Paso del Viento Camp
You'll break camp and head toward the Túnel River crossing, which you can do via zip line or wading depending on water levels that day. Fair warning: the water's going to be cold. From there, the trail climbs uphill along spectacular moraines to reach Viento Pass, a viewpoint overlooking the Southern Ice Field. The pass lives up to its name with constant wind. The descent takes you down the western slopes to Paso del Viento camp beside a river. Plan for 7 to 8 hours at medium-high intensity.

Paso del Viento to Bahía de los Témpanos
Your day follows alongside the Viedma glacier with views of ice the entire way. You'll pass sparkling mountain lakes, and after lunch tackle the challenging climb to Huemul Pass. Once at the top, watch for condors in the 'Condorera' area. After a rest, you'll descend steeply through forest to reach Bahía de los Témpanos camp. This stretch takes 7 to 8 hours and sits at medium-high intensity throughout.

Bahía de los Témpanos to El Chaltén
Start by viewing icebergs from the Viedma glacier calving field before breakfast. Then you'll trek easily to Bahía Túnel over 5 to 6 hours at low-medium intensity, which is nice for your final day on the trail. After that, you'll transfer to El Chaltén where you can finally relax and celebrate finishing the trek.
